Home again after the Dickens vs Tolstoy debate in London featuring Tom Hiddleston (in an illustrious company).
It was my very first time to get to see Tom in person, and it made me wish to see him more performing on stage. The evening was way too much fun for something involving dead Russian novelists, I must say. :)
The advocates and the small company of actors were full of enthusiasm and it was a remarkably friendly debate with lots of respect paid to both literary giants.
There were shorter-longer excerpts from different novels played out by the five invited actors, so it was a bit like getting a sneak peek of a reading rehearsal or something. They were terrific, all I had expected was one or another person standing up and reading a few paragraphs to illustrate an argument, but it was a playfully presented theater experience with a world-class cast.
Actually, Tom was reading a couple of descriptive passages alone at first, but then he got to play a fine selection of tragic Russian guys , among them a worried husband during the birth of his first child. I mean, everything we saw was fantastic tonight, but that one scene was absolute delight. Watch out for the video podcast! :D
I can share a few snapshots of the event, but I must apologize for the quality. Phone cameras are not much good against stage lighting at best, but with maximum optical zoom the result is truly appalling. :/
