BOMI International and Others in Real Estate Industry Collaborate to Fill Talent Pipeline
WASHINGTON/ July 12, 2018 (STL.News) Today, 29 real estate industry organizations, representing more than 10 million jobs, announced a ground-breaking collaboration to highlight the diverse career paths within the real estate sector. The first initiative of this collaboration is a new website entitled Careers Building Communities Careers (http://www.CareersBuildingCommunities.org), which allows visitors to navigate through the scores of career paths across all sectors of real estate. For the first time, students in high school, college, technical programs, and community colleges can explore possible career pathways within real estate by taking an interactive quiz and discovering career opportunities. As the industry seeks to fill millions of jobs, this site serves as an all-inclusive resource for students, educators, career changers, and other stakeholders to explore the unlimited opportunities in the field of real estate. “BOMI International has served the industry of real estate professionals for almost 50 years,” said Jeffrey Horn, President and CEO of BOMI International. “During that time, the function of the commercial real estate property and facility professional has changed dramatically. The industry now finds itself within a generational transition. With many of the industry’s Baby Boomers retiring, the industry looks to Millennials to take their place. We collaborated with the Careers Building Communities project because we strongly believe that this is the right solution to help attract new entrants to our vital industry and usher in the next great generation of commercial real estate property and facility professionals.” Information about BOMI International and its contribution to the Careers Building Communities website can be found by visiting http://careersbuildingcommunities.org/international-property-management/. About Careers Building Communities CareersBuildingCommunities.org is a strategic collaboration of 29 real estate-related associations focused on raising awareness and attracting diverse talent to the many careers available across the built environment. MUS6018: Mastery Journal Reflection
This image below is a screenshot flow of an interactive quiz of the moons that could support life created using AngularJs. The quiz was designed for children ages 8-15. The learning outcomes for this quiz were developed using Bloom's Taxonomy to effectively measure the students' understanding of the subject matter. For each question, the students answered, additional feedback was given to give the students a better understanding of the subject.
Reflect
I did enjoy developing the interactive quiz following Chris Converse tutorial. Going through each line of code to make sure the quiz worked properly was demanding but it worked out after testing and correcting the code several times. Getting the quiz to be responsive was also an interesting the experience. I had to experiment changing some of the CSS media queries which eventually worked and made the quiz responsive.
Dr. McBride did recommend that I review the rules of typography because one of my titles in the mobile version did not have a good contrast. He also recommended that I have the names of the moons by the pictures and not just the picture to help the student understand the picture better. Here is the feedback from Dr. McBride:
“Your initial draft was really pretty good, but needed to be tweaked some, as I said earlier. What is neat is that you actually tested out your quiz in the "mobile mode" and made sure it fits just right, without any overlapping. However, your "Test Your Knowledge" is a bit problematic in that the white font type used is a little washed out over part of the moon. You may want to review the rules of typography, back in month three from Ina Saltz. In your "Which moon has bodies of surface liquid like Earth?" question, you should have put the names of the moons with the pictures as you did in your draft. “
Learning how to apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to develop measurable learning outcomes assessments that help to effectively measure students’ understanding of a subject matter was also very interesting. It will help me in developing curriculum as an instructional designer.
Inquire
I do need to revisit Bloom’s Taxonomy. Bloom’s Taxonomy emphasizes the use of action verbs when developing learning outcomes and assessments. I will need to go over the six domain of the cognitive objective to understand how and when to effectively apply them
Suggest
If I had more time I would experiment with other programming languages besides AngularJS to create the interactive quiz so I could have a broader understanding of how to work with programmers when working on a project
Elevate
I think with what I have learned in this class, I know how to work with Programmers on an Instructional design project. I also know how to apply Bloom’s Taxonomy which enables me to develop measurable outcomes for any instructional activity I will be working on
