I was tagged by @intellectandromanceā to play the shuffle game, which is also my favorite because I live for music. Iām going to use my go to Spotify playlist because I think it represents more of my range of music better than my iTunes right now
rules: write the first ten songs that come up on shuffle (no skipping) and quote your favourite lyric from each song, then tag 10 people (I tag people who want to do this because itās been going around and I canāt remember whoās not done it)
1. "O-o-h Childā by The Five StairstepsĀ
Some day, yeah We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun Some day When the world is much brighter
2. "Honey Vanityā -Ā Kƶzi
kokoroe...utsushidasu kimi wa temaneki hohoende toki ni odoriko kidori yagate yami no mokuzu to kie karakara saketaĀ
[Knowledge...it reflects You smiled enticingly And the pretend dancing girl Faded into the waves of darkness parched and torn apart in time
translation via (x)] Ā
3. "Tragedyā - Bee Gees
It's hard to bear With no one to love you, you're Goin' nowhere Ā
4. "Hash Pipeā - Weezer
Down on Santa Monica where tricks are for kidsĀ
5. "Working for the Weekendā - LoverboyĀ
Iām just going to link to the lyrics for the entire song because I am an 80ā²s baby and this song is the equivalent of comfort food and this post is already too long without me quoting the entire song in it
6. "Skyfallā - Adelle
Let the sky fall When it crumbles We will stand tall Face it all together At Skyfall
7. "MISERYā - hide
Kanashii to iunaraba soro no aosasae mo Todakana imo dokashisani kimi wa nakun darou kimi no chiisana karada tsutsunderu yume wa Itami o nomikomi azayaka ni naru
[ If you say you're sad, then so is the blue of the sky You'd cry over the restlessness of not being able to reach The dreams that embrace your small body, swallow the pain, and become brilliant
translation via x]
8. "So Coldā - Breaking Benjamin
Crowded streets are cleared away One by one
9.Ā āCome as You Areā - Nirvana
Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach As I want you to be As a trend, as a friend As an old
Memoria...
10. "Unfinishedā - X JAPAN
never can I stay with you I'm not the one you need close your eyes and forget me there's nothing I can do anymore I lost my way
intellectandromance replied to your post āWhen I first watched Star Wars Episode II: The Attack of the Clones...ā
I like this. Maybe that'll make my prequels rewatch easier lol. (The last two, anyway. I love The Phantom Menace dearly. Say what you will. :P)
I found I liked The Phantom Menace better once I understood its function in the larger narrative. When I watched it last night I realized it was basically exposition to the entire franchise like a very, very long chapter one. It made me appreciate the movie a little more though it also solidified for me that if I have kids and want to share Star Wars with them, I should probably start with IV.
Actually approaching all of the movies with a kind of goal of looking at the writing and gleaning what I could from it like a re-read of a novel has helped me appreciate all of the movies more and made me appreciate Luke more than I have. Also I think that being older has helped me enjoy the movies more as well because it broadens my perspective. I wanted to do a more analytical rewatch since I've never really looked at the movies analytically before and I though that if I watched them analytically it might give me insight into where VII - IX might go.
I think that's why I love both Star Wars and Star Trek. Star Wars provides me beloved characters and a truly epic storyline, which is something I can always appreciate. Star Trek gives me beloved characters and a universe that I feel I could have a place in if it were to exist along side of me. Star Wars fosters my love of storytelling whereas Star Trek affirms that I am smart, capable, and should exist. I find that when I think about looking forward to Episode VII, I'm looking forward to the story and where my babies are going to go and how they've changed since VI. When I think of Star Trek XIII, I think about my affection for the characters, the amazing aliens we might get to meet and the alien worlds we'll see. They're really two halves of who I am when it comes to science ficiton and fantasy really.
Sorry, this answer got longer and more involved than was probably necessary :D;;

Iām about 20 minutes in. Since the plot requires the protagonist to take his grandfatherās ashes to a very southern point in India, I suspect like with most nations, things are going to get maybe stereotypey? IDEK. I do know that four big fat guys have come to kidnap the love interest and so the protagonist and she are singing to each other so the kidnappers canāt understand what theyāre saying.
I can only guess really because I donāt think I know enough about India to catch anything outside of obvious things. The Indian history class I took was all pre-1900ā²s.Ā

omg thanks for the heads-up! might watch.
Youāre welcome. Iād have had no clue, but I happened to turn on Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) the other night and there was a commercial for it. They have a whole host of times theyāre going to run the movie so you might want to check TV Guide or something if thereās a better time.Ā

I literally never encountered anyone else who read that book
The reason I own the book is people in my classes at Purdue had read it and they were saying good things about it and so I bought it. I didnāt have the time to read it and so like an idiot I put it in the cubby of one of my bookshelves instead of on a shelf. So, I didnāt even remember I owned a copy until I found it in the cubby when we moved this winter and now itās in a box somewhere. I will read it whenever I find it again. Iāve been watching the BBC production written by Peter Harness and itās been extremely entertaining. I heard that the ending is going to be different than the book, so Iām curious which one Iāll like the best and it gives me some hope if I donāt like the ending that there might be a better one lurking. Iām also prepared for a two cakes situation where I end up liking both endings, because that can happen with adaptations of things and me a lot.Ā

I don't know the specifics of photosensitive epilepsy, but I can say that Mad Max was one of the most visually overwhelming movies I've ever seen! The flashiest, wooziest part was when they drive into the dust storm. Great movie though.
The problem is, which is likely why the FCC doesnāt actually have a guideline set about stroboscopics, that itās widely variable from photosensitive person to photosensitive person. Whatās okay for me isnāt okay for other people and there are people who donāt get tripped up by some things that can catch me if Iām not careful like the circulating light during the Doctorās monologue in āListenā from series eight.Ā
From what Iāve been hearing, it sounds like Iām probably not going to know until I watch the movie. The trailers were so overwhelming that I nixed watching it in theaters pretty early on, but sometimes for me whatās overstimulating in theaters (like the Bifrost in Thor when Odin, Thor, and Loki are having their scene on it) can be tolerable on a TV or a computer because the screen is a fraction of theater size.Ā
Thanks for the message. Iām glad that Iām getting a clearer picture of what might be in store when Iām able to get around to it.Ā
intellectandromanceĀ replied to your post: āRight. They donāt know if the Puppetmaster is a man or woman....ā
i've been told to watch that! tell me what ya think
I remembered that you wanted to know so I was going to message you when I finished, which Iāll still do because who knows how Iāll feel once we hit that hour mark when a lot of Japanese movies have the thing you donāt want to happen happen.
Iām about 56 minutes in right now and thereās about 82 minutes total. What I can say so far is this:
If they donāt screw it up in the next 30~ minutes, Iāll probably rate it a 8 - 9/10 on IMDB. The animation is very mid-90ā²s seinen, but it doesnāt look it in a dated way. Thereās nipples. Thereās cursing. Iām thinking the dub also added a random conversation while one of the characters got his gun together, but it didnāt really detract from things. The dub sounds like a standard late-90ā²s/early 2000ā²s English dub, so itās not bad. A little monotone, but thatās mostly because a lot of characters are cyborgs. Not sure of the quality of sub.Ā
Iāll let you know my final impressions :D So far, itād be worth watching if youāre into basically a cop movie but with cyborgs.Ā

Ooh, you'll have to tell me about Ghost in the Shell, I've been wanting to watch that.
I figure since it's about to become a live action movie I might as well watch it since I've been meaning to since I was about fifteen. I'll let you know how I feel about it. I'll also liveblog it when I get around to it.Ā
