The blue carpenter bee
Xylocopa caerulea, the blue carpenter bee, is a species of carpenter bee.
Species: Xylocopa caerulea; Fabricius, 1804
Family: Apidae
Genus: Xylocopa
Phylum: Arthropoda
the blue carpenter bees can grow to 28 mm far larger then a honey bee who can grow to 17 mm.
These bees can be found in Southeast Asia, India, and Southern China, and they are known for being less aggressive and more affectionate than others of the bee species.
As opposed to honey bees, who build intricate hives containing thousands of worker bees, the blue carpenter bees live relatively solitary lives, building nests in trees.
Occasionally queen bees will share an entry hole to their nest so that they can have some company.

If I were to do the project again, I would give more love to my other chosen artist, Emile-Allain Séguy (1877 - 1951). His pochoir insects are just gorgeous!! Unfortunately, at the time, I did confuse him with the entomologist Eugene Séguy (1890 - 1985); my sincerest apologies, Monsieur (E. A.) Séguy!
My favourite thing to come out of this project was the huge sustained piece (two beetles crossed over, second image), which sadly I cannot find. May it crawl out of its hiding place soon...

Secret Bug Garden
This is a lil cloche jar, terrarium piece I built for my step brother's birthday! It took a while to build but I'm tremendously happy with how it turned out. Relatively affordable in the end too, I really only paid for the moss, the cloche jar and the insect - and I definitely have enough moss to do more of these. In fact I even made a terrarium necklace for another friend's birthday.

For anyone interested, the specimen is Chrysocroa fulimans, which I believe is an Indonesian species. This specimen isn't of the highest quality, and the display I've put it in, while I worked incredibly hard on it, is not the best there is. But it's just a present for my brother and I know he'll love it all the same.
I might try a similar concept with a pair of gold dust weevils I have laying around. I'll definitely post about it if I do.
