Power Puff Pokemon?

Happy Pokemon Day everyone! With the reveal of the new Pokemon Zarude a TON of theories and jokes have been going around. One is that Zarude looks like non other than the Power Puff Girls villain Mojojojo! hahaha. As silly as this is it made me think of a weird comparison going around when Pokemon Sword & Shield first came out. The weird comparison between the 3 starter Pokemon and the Power Puff Girls... Mostly the hair shapes and the colors lining up perfectly... I didn’t pay much attention to it... UNTIL NOW! It’s true... 100% confirmed! Power Puff Girls and Pokemon are directly related!

That confirmed theory aside, it’s worth looking into how similar Zarude and Rillaboom look. Zarude is known as the Rogue Monkey Pokemon... Could Zarude be a branch off evolution of Grookey? maybe a group of Grookeys went ROGUE and lived together deep in a forest. Through their isolation they evolve differently to suite their surroundings? Rillaboom has leaves coming from the back it’s head and Zarude is said to grow vines from it’s neck... Plus look at the chest patterns... the eyes...

This one is a WAY bigger stretch but when I saw the BG in the first image above I couldn’t place it in anything I’ve seen in the Mario world BUT it did kinda remind me of Oil Ocean Zone from Sonic... Crossover?

UPDATE: Looking at this awesome tank it looks like it uses the pieces from the oil ocean mystery place. So it’s probably just the night version of that level? But... whats with the pipes and the industrial look?

The new trailer for Mario Maker 2 just dropped and we were shown a handful of new features. The first thing that caught my eye was space for more than one new Game Style. The first being Super Mario 3D World and the next OR rest of the new styles are yet to be seen. This got me thinking about what new styles we could be working with. My first thought was Super Mario Brothers 2. You could add Birdos and they could be set to spit out whatever item you needed. Maybe SMB2 would add in the ability to pull up vegis from the ground? Maybe it’ll add floaty peach? BUT it wasn’t until later that I started to think we could also see Super Mario Land 2.

It was revealed there was a new night time mode you could access via clicking the moon. That moon looked weirdly suspicious to me. I googled Super Mario Land 2 real quick and then I saw that big smiley face. (although the nose is different) That plus the fact it has a mode where there’s a starry background and floaty physics which seems right out of Space Zone from SML2... Maybe Nintendo’s giving us a hint? OR MAYBE I THINK ABOUT THIS STUFF WAY TOO MUCH...

(other moon references that are out there but didn’t seem to fit as well are the 3-up moon from SMW and the Moons from SMO)

In the new Super Mario Odyssey trailer that came out we get a clear shot of the moon in the world map. People are starting to talk that the moon might be a regular or unlockable stage. With all the new outfits being revealed that are specifically related to old Mario looks, I think this one miiiiight confirm the moon theory.

In between posting all the old sprite sheets I’ve been working on a block stacking type project. While I was researching some stuff I came across the old art for the yellow virus from Dr. Mario...

With all this junk on Little Nemo recently, it got my mind going...

You know what a great crossover would be? Kirby and Little Nemo. Kirby's adventures take place in a dream land, Nemo's... a dream land. Kirby has an ability to use enemy abilities, Nemo's candy is the same. I think it's almost too good to be true!

Something like a "Kirby's Adventure" / "Little Nemo, the Dream Master" swap. The same principles as their original games only in each other's worlds!

It's hard to connect games that have no real continuing story but sometimes there is undeniable evidence. So before closing the door to dream world here's an interesting bit of information. In the Legend of Zelda, Link's awakening and Super Mario Brothers 2 there is a weird connection. Spoiler Alert! Both the games end with the character waking up, realizing they were dreaming making both their adventures in a dream world. Where this connects comes down to a few key characters. Even though both games are different genres we see several sprites that appear in both. King Wart, Shy Guys and Pokeys.

What does this mean? In some way it means these enemies could all originate from the same place, this dream world. It could also mean that Nintendo Video game characters all dream into the same realm... hmm... weird...

One more thing, If this little fun fact wasn't enough. There's another few characters that make a cameo in LoZ, Link's Awakening:

Kirby and Gordo. If you think this doesn't fit that pattern think again. Where do most of the Kirby games take place... Dream Land. So, Is dream land really Subcon? Does Kirby live in the dreams of other Nintendo characters? I wonder if we'll see king wart in Mario & Luigi RPG, Dream Team?
