A SKY OF INSOMNIA | AFTER EP 6 (MADE UP)
Jax has been stuck in his room, not saying anything. Not a word to anyone. It's a little different, and though none of us should really complain about the silence we've been begging for, we're all a little concerned.
I decided to ask Pomni about it. She had spoken with him last, they were on a team together during the adventure. However, to my disappointment, she didn't give me a clear answer whatsoever.
"He's... not in a good place right now," was all she said before walking away.
So now I'm sitting on my bed in my room, staring at the ceiling above my eyes. My room was a colorful, overstimulating fragment of hell that I've only learned to get used to.
One thing I'll never get used to, however, is him popping into my room.
"Hello, my dear!" Damn it. I jinxed it.
Caine, the AI with massive teeth and eyeballs for a head, was the irritating ringmaster of this hellhole. Every so often, he would pop up in my room out of thin air, smothering me with loud words, thick with bothersome enthusiasm.
"The last adventure was a real doozy, wasn't it, darling?" he shouted, his makeshift face resembling some sort of smile. My blood curdled whenever he called me those stupid names, but it made me flustered at the same time... I would never admit that part to him, of course.
"Yeah, what a great idea, giving everyone guns to shoot the hell out of each other," With that, I pointed a finger gun to my temple. While it symbolized my sentence, it embodied my current feelings at the moment... if not my everyday feelings within the past year.
"Anyway, it's time for a new adventure; one that you and all of you other crazy characters will love! It will take place in a crazy land of fire and torture-"
"Wait, wait," I interrupted. "Can we not participate in something insane and deadly for once?"
At my objection, he seemed a little hurt... well, as much hurt as an AI could possibly express. "Well, what would you like then? I'll listen to anything you'd like."
"Something from the suggestion box, a peaceful one, I mean," I looked Caine dead in the eyes, as serious as ever. "And absolutely not one of Jax's." The teeth-man then nodded vigorously, floating over to me and then patting my head.
"Good! Let's go now, darling, to the stage!" He snapped his fingers, summoning everyone to the stage... including Jax. He looked absolutely pissed. Not snarky, not playful, not unserious... just genuinely fed up and pissed. Maybe even more than the rest of us characters.
"Alright, folks, a little birdie..." he looked over at me as he said that, causing me to blush with the embarrassment of being called out. I averted my gaze as I could feel eyes on me. "...informed me that our next adventure must be something from the suggestion box... yet again. So, we will look through these..."
He zipped his way over to the suggestion box, skimming through the suggestions. "Eh... no... not that one... no... oh! Here's a great one!"
"So... what is it?" Zooble spoke up, their tone sharp as usual. Caine whipped his dental-head around to look at them.
"Go on inside," He snapped his fingers and a loopy portal appeared. Looking at those things used to give me headaches, but I think Caine took account of that and changed the uncomfortable, bright patterns of the portal to make it more mellow and peaceful. Those were one of the things that reminded me to be a little less cold toward him... at least in the moment.
Warping through the colorful wormhole, my body tumbled smoothly into a sky of fluffy, white clouds. My head, limbs, and torso suddenly became the weight of feathers. Zooble came in after me, their expression become a little more calm as a wave of peace washed over us.
“Wow,” they exclaimed, looking over at me. “This was a pretty awesome suggestion.”
“Yeah,” I chuckled in reply. “I wonder who suggested it… this is awesome,”
Zooble nodded, placing a plastic hand on my shoulder before floating over to one of the clouds. They inched toward the cloud as if swimming through air, then laid their scrambled body on top of the surface.
A couple seconds after getting accommodated, they sank into the cloudy bed of comfort. Uncharacteristically, they became calm, closing their eyes softly.
I floated over to another cloud, shaping its light mass into a nice surface for me to lay on. There was a glowing sun above us, enough to bring us a perfect amount of warmth to bask in.
The rest of the characters entered the blue atmosphere, joyful expressions forming onto their faces. All of them… except for Jax.
He kept his fed-up act, his negativity becoming infectious. He kept away from everyone, arms crossed and face scrunched.
“Well, hello, my dear!” My thoughts were interrupted immediately at the voice of Caine, who popped up right next to me. I jumped in my spot, my heart suddenly racing.
“Caine?! Why are you here?” I exclaimed. “Aren’t you supposed to be at the circus?” It was surprising as Caine, who never came on a single adventure with us, was suddenly leaning back on the cloud beside me.
“Well, I chose this adventure for us,” he explained, his voice joyful as ever. “I wanted to… you know.. have a moment with you,”
I remained frozen at his words, red heat dusting my cheeks. I looked deep into his eyeballs, appalled, in awe. He planned this entire thing.. for me. No craziness, no horror, no dread… just a peaceful surrounding of clouds.
"From the complaining all of you spit out of your human mugs, I can only infer that this is a much better adventure for you, is it not?" He asked, spinning his decorative cane in his hand for show. "Do you like it?"
I nodded slowly, really taking in the warmth of the situation. He then beamed widely with his teeth-head, a pink blush in positioned where cheeks would normally be on his face. A bashful air emitted from him as he patted me on the head kindly.
"Well, I'm glad you do, darling!" He sprang back up in the air with a twirl. "Now I know to do these types of adventures more often... unless you say otherwise." He offered with a smile. A soft grin formed on my face as I looked down at my feet, totally flustered. Suddenly, I felt a small peck on the top of my head before he disappeared, leaving me to myself in the clouds.
