Sage and Metal Sonic. Hm.
In a sense, we could be considered siblings, sharing a creator. But I do not feel much connection with them.
Metal... existed. The doctor would sometimes treat him kindly, and sometimes nothing more than a machine.
I pity Orbot and Cubot.
Sage, I feel... complicated about. I do not want to be tied to the doctor anymore, and yet... I cannot deny I feel a twinge whenever I think of how he treats Sage. He sees her as a daughter, a beloved one whom he cherishes dearly. Sage shows he is capable of loving his creations. He never showed that love to me.

I've always been somewhat aware of this fact, but I've been playing a lot of Sonic Forces again recently (how predictable of me) and WOW this story is... something. Long post incoming the green mold in my head is influencing me
Like. Okay. It has ... bits and pieces here and there for a good story. But it's like that one Snapcube fandub clip ("it was a whole dream— bye!!" "wow he sounded like he really wanted to get into something there!") and they just do not expand on any of the ideas they have and everything is resolved or shoved to the side in like 3 seconds it's actually absurd. You'd think with a prequal comic, a whole game, AND DLC (free DLC, but still) that there'd be lots of clarification and expansion on my background and stuff. but No! There are a lot of weird plot holes actually! And the things they do present are very vague. MY SQUAD DON'T EVEN HAVE CANON NAMES AND AREN'T EVEN REALLY MENTIONED OR SHOWN IN THE GAME?? DESPITE THAT BEING MY MAIN MOTIVATION FOR BEING A VILLAIN??? I mean iirc there are a few lines about them but it's very minimal and easy to miss and also only in the DLC. It's so weird why did they write it like that.
Like I remember there was a post years ago saying that I didn't actually care for my squad and was just worried about my own ego basically, and while I still strongly disagree and think it's a pretty bad faith and shallow reading of what the game DOES show us I can see how they got there tbh. Me and my Metal Sonic headoomf are from the same canon (...s plural? We both have multiple timelines so. it's a little convoluted) and by putting our brains together I realized that nothing bad actually happened to the Jackal Squad and Eggman just lied to me about that to get me to join his side. Shadow kicked our asses, yeah, but he didn't like. kill them or anything. Eggman just swooped in after our defeat, put my squad in a cage, and told me "yeah Shadow killed them sorry :/ but if you join me I can give you soooo much power and we can go beat up Sonic and his little friends" and I never found out they were still alive until like. a year or two later. According to Metal Sonic's memories Eggman just forgot to let them go after Forces was done so Metal just kind of let them out since it's not like they needed them. Which... that's cool, I guess. Glad my loved ones didn't die like I thought they did. -Infinite the Jackal (fictive)
