I've always been somewhat aware of this fact, but I've been playing a lot of Sonic Forces again recently (how predictable of me) and WOW this story is... something. Long post incoming the green mold in my head is influencing me
Like. Okay. It has ... bits and pieces here and there for a good story. But it's like that one Snapcube fandub clip ("it was a whole dream— bye!!" "wow he sounded like he really wanted to get into something there!") and they just do not expand on any of the ideas they have and everything is resolved or shoved to the side in like 3 seconds it's actually absurd. You'd think with a prequal comic, a whole game, AND DLC (free DLC, but still) that there'd be lots of clarification and expansion on my background and stuff. but No! There are a lot of weird plot holes actually! And the things they do present are very vague. MY SQUAD DON'T EVEN HAVE CANON NAMES AND AREN'T EVEN REALLY MENTIONED OR SHOWN IN THE GAME?? DESPITE THAT BEING MY MAIN MOTIVATION FOR BEING A VILLAIN??? I mean iirc there are a few lines about them but it's very minimal and easy to miss and also only in the DLC. It's so weird why did they write it like that.
Like I remember there was a post years ago saying that I didn't actually care for my squad and was just worried about my own ego basically, and while I still strongly disagree and think it's a pretty bad faith and shallow reading of what the game DOES show us I can see how they got there tbh.
