Who would you give $230 per week to?
Your choices are pensioners/unemployed/sole parents/disabled/carers receiving social security or a LNP supporting billionaire mining magnate?
Because that what the INDUE card will pay in admin fees.
Not only will it cause hardship-
Many landlords will not take renters on the card as it’s famous for delays
There is a limit to where they can be used, even paying bills can be problematic.
No more shopping at markets, no more second hand furniture.
Placing even more barriers in front of the poorest all to enrich a billionaire.
All the reports (that have been allowed to be released- transparency is a LNP problem) overwhelmingly point to this card being harmful.
The LNP have pushed the line that no aged pension will be put onto it (their wording avoids mentioning disability and sole parent payments) however in the trial areas aged pensioners ARE on it.
They try to deflect that it’s voluntary, however pensioners have reported they were given no choice, and there was even a group of grey nomads who were put on it automatically when passing through the area, and they had to take the government to court to get off it. That doesn’t sound voluntary to me?
Anne Ruston has accused Labor of scaremongering- which is a funny choice of words, as it acknowledges that the INDUE card is something to be scared of.
Anne also carefully worded that it would happen- won’t happen like not defunding the ABC, Schools or Medicare?
But the legislation was specifically amended to add pensioners. Why amend it to include them if you don’t plan to use it?
The costing supplied by Anne do not match up with the money allocated, not with costing released by INDUE. More spin to hide rorting.
Imagine the boost to our economy if all those on social security payments had an extra $230 per week to inject into the economy. Imagine if those millions poured into a billionaires pocket instead while more and more of our poorest defaulted on rent and became homeless, struggled with the mental health issues of a bigger burden and another hoop to jump through.
