But in the meantime, here I was, suspended in the present with no illusions, no ambitions, no obsessive preparations, and it wasn't going well.
Miranda July, from All Fours
And so at that time my life was dominated by a feeling of extraordinary impatience. Nothing that I did pleased me or seemed worth doing; furthermore, I was unable to imagine anything that could please me, or that could occupy me in any lasting manner. I was constantly going in and out of my studio on any sort of futile pretext—pretexts which I invented for myself with the sole object of not remaining there: to buy cigarettes I didn’t need, to have a cup of coffee I didn’t want, to acquire a newspaper that didn’t interest me, to visit an exhibition of pictures about which I hadn’t the slightest curiosity, and so on. I felt, moreover, that these occupations were nothing more than crazy disguises of boredom itself, so much so that sometimes I did not complete the errands I undertook. Instead of buying a newspaper or drinking coffee or visiting an exhibition, after taking a few steps I would return to the studio which I had left in such a hurry only a few minutes before. Back in the studio boredom, of course, awaited me and the whole process would begin over again.

The idler who does not exert himself when he should, who though young and strong is full of sloth, with a mind full of vain thoughts — such an indolent man does not find the path to wisdom.
Dhammapada, verse 280

Ch151, Indolent lump of flesh?
The title page:
“From a lump of flesh... to a peer of the realm” is obviously about real Ciel.
Is “indolent” about real Ciel... or Undertaker? Real Ciel would say it’s about Undertaker, as he actually calls Undertaker “useless”. However, even though real Ciel started tackling the paperwork that Tanaka brought to him... he doesn’t really want to do it. And he seems to neglect Funtom, since he tells Tanaka to “dispose of” the toys however he sees fit.
Just for reference:
You appear to me not to have understood the nature of my body & mind. Partly from ill-health, & partly from an unhealthy & reverie-like vividness of Thoughts, & (pardon the pedantry of the phrase) a diminished Impressibility from Things, my ideas, wishes, & feelings are to a diseased degree disconnected from motion & action. In plain and natural English, I am a dreaming & therefore an indolent man. I am a Starling self-incaged, & always in the Moult, & my whole Note is, Tomorrow, & tomorrow, & tomorrow.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
