Where do you like to draw? I love to sketch in public transport and then clean the sketches at home.

Do you still remember your first piece of work? What made you start drawing? I remember one that was a sun done with watercolors. I asked my mom to frame it. I guess it’s still hanging somewhere in my parent’s house.

Could you kindly explain your message behind your work? I try to show contradiction and silliness just as it happens everyday in this crazy world we live.

Could you introduce an object on your desk that you love the most? This a crazy toy I bought on the market at Shanghai (the one behind the temple with tons of cheap stuff). I can’t understand the motivation of this silly design. That’s why it’s so attractive to me.

Where do you like to draw? In my studio, at home, at my grandmother’s desk and whenever I go to a drop in class of life drawing.

Do you still remember your first piece of work? What made you start drawing? I found some of my old drawings recently that I still really like. I made them quite late in age but at a time when it all started to have a meaning. They are an inked series of interpreted fashion ads. They have very big tongues. They are quite funny, grotesque and full of energy.

Could you kindly explain your message behind your work? This summer has had a lot to do with finding humour. Both with the commercial jobs as well as my own work (and life). When things appears too obvious to me, I don't like it. With the series of the Duchess of Windsor (shown here) I wanted to avoid the more common clip doll solution. Her dementia suggested a technical approach to me and I started to layer the various outfits.

Could you introduce an object on your desk that you love the most? I have so many brushes yet I seem to only favour a very thin one, in particular. With it, I got a ceramic bowl in which I mix my ink with water. They were given to me and both are from China. Other than that, I like my entire desk at home. It was my grandmothers and she'd be thrilled to know it's in England nowadays and of such great use to me.

Where do you like to draw? I like to draw in my studio, but also in cafes, libraries, my friends’ houses, pretty much anywhere.

Do you still remember your first piece of work? What made you start drawing? I’ve been drawing since I was little, ever since I can remember.  I used to love drawing with my friends and it’s something I still do nowadays. I like returning to the attitude of drawing without expecting anything, drawing whatever you come up with in that moment.

Could you kindly explain your message behind your work? I don´t think there’s something like a hidden message that needs to be explained. I like to make people laugh with my drawing, or at least make them smile.

Where do you like to draw? I do not have a specific favourite place to draw, as long as it is a nice quiet place or corner where I can take my own time, it is good enough.

Do you still remember your first piece of work? What made you start drawing? The most memorable piece I did was a drawing that was half the length of my primary school hall which is a compilation of drawings done of A4 paper that I pasted together over time. My time in Nanyang Junior College, under the Art Elective Programme as an eye opener where I get exposed to really amazing works by fellow classmates and it got me interested in both art and drawing which I did vigorously into my National Service days in the army (partly because they don’t allow cameras, sketching was a way to jot down these memories).

Could you kindly explain your message behind your work? I didn't intend for any message in my works. They were the results of my personal explorations such as discovering more about the ubiquitous kueh or a lost landscape in Singapore. I see it as a bonus when viewers are able to relate and discover something more about the world around us as I did through drawing.

Could you introduce an object on your desk that you love the most? This is my desktop, some of my works requires numerous references, and I enjoy music from the 1920s – 1960s such as oldies by Yao Li or You Ya. The Tin Tin and Snowy figurines were a gift from a friend of mine which I made it into a habit of bringing around with me wherever I go under the hashtag #tintinlimkopi on instagram.

Where do you like to draw? I like drawing sketches in cafés, restaurants and parks with tables. I find it easier to concentrate in noisy and lively environments. When coloring my illustration, I prefer doing it quietly in my studio.

Do you still remember your first piece of work? What made you start drawing? I don’t remember it clearly. It is probably a random portrait mimicking my father’s face. Later I got really interested in drawing and that was the moment when I began taking drawing seriously. I was an amateur illustrator at the beginning and my first paid job was drawing illustrations for a book written by a Hong Kong author, Wingsum Lam.

Could you kindly explain your message behind your work? My recent personal work all revolves around a character called ‘Siu Ming’. ‘Siu Ming’ is a reflection of my ignorance, comicality and the desire to lead a romantic life. He may not be a smart character but I hope you will like him.

Could you introduce an object on your desk that you love the most? I just moved my studio to the place I lived as a child, so my working desk is still pretty neat. At this moment I like the traditional, Chinese styled, wooden bench the most. I just bought it a while ago and I needed to assemble the parts on my own. It is inexpensive and very elegant.

Where do you like to draw? In my studio, but also in front of the TV.

Do you still remember your first piece of work? What made you start drawing? My memory is very bad so I don’t! I believe that every child likes to draw from a very early age and it just depends when you stop doing this as you grow. What made me start was probably that joy of making marks which join together to become more than the sum of their parts.

Could you kindly explain your message behind your work? I would hope that what people would gain from my work would be the importance of humour, colour and human relationships as we go through life.
