- He went to school in Kalos for some time/was raised in Kalos

- His mother is a star of sorts; she believes his popularity is him taking after her (is she wrong? Probably not)

- He likes Lumiose Galette

- only Trial Captain on Melemele, probably lonely cause he’s:

1. Pedestalised by the locals, especially the younger ones

2. Again, the only captain on Melemele, especially as contrasted to Lana-Kiawe-Mallow, who live on the same island and are friends

- he really really likes battle; probably the trial captain who loves it the most

- If I remember correctly, there’s people who believe Mina and Illima got their type specialty switched at some stage in development? Not fully behind this, but it does have merit

Some fluff about Ilima ❤🥰

Because it’s been a while, I just wanted to offer you some Pokémon fluff ❤🥳

Since the show has separated him from his connection with Lusamine, they basically had to go with another motivation.

The only other motivation he had: He failed to be a trial captain (or in the anime, the challenges in general). 

So in the show, when he says “I’m gonna destroy your League”, he is not being a vandal or criminal, he is showing “THIS MEAN NOTHING IF A ‘LOSER’ CAN WIN THE WHOLE THING” 

In the game, he mentions that he doesn’t need z-moves to be strong.  Since he personally views z-moves and z-rings as a symbol of the “system”, he moves against them.

HE IS ESSENTIALLY A CHARACTER WHOSE WHOLE THING IS HE IS ANTI-GIMMICK 

This makes him one of the best examples of a non-Ash character working around a handicap. 

Example one: He can beat mega kangaskhan by taking advantage of it’s protective nature 

Example two: He knows his opponent has a sound-based z-move and is aware of his general strategy. He comes in with an anti-sound move and avoids using his totally predictable strong attack.

In Pokemon, Ash has faced several opponents with hard gimmicks, but Guzma is different. HE HAS NO GIMMICK.

In his four battles, he has demonstrated:

1. He takes into consideration what his opponent knows and can do.

2. An ability to adapt and improvise strategies.

3. An actual sense of strength by going head on with characters already established as strong. 

4. This is compounded by this aura of “nothing works against him”. 

5. He is just brutal when he fights. He doesn’t just win, he  beats you down, and beats you down, and never lets up. 

I know some people may say “Oh he had to beat those two because Ash needs to beat him”. But like i said, his victories never feel like a cop out. He does not have a Darkrai to just put him on top. The show explains his strategies and why he won.
