Your group was running low on supplies during this damn apocalypse. It was time for you to go on a supply run. Your boyfriend was being reckless as always, throwing himself out there killing any zombie in his path.

When you and your group finally get to an abandoned store it was quiet. Too quiet. “Look no zombies!” Your boyfriend said. He put his gun up. “Don’t put it up. There could be some in the shadows. You never know.” You say holding your gun tighter. “Relax!” He then starts to head off to fetch supplies. Your friend comes up to you and say, “One of these days he’s going to get himself killed.” “I would get mad at you…But you’re right.”

Since your boyfriend had the survival instincts of a potato you followed after him.

In the feminine hygiene aisle you grab a few things when suddenly you feel a tap on your shoulder. You turn around and see your boyfriend holding up a box of birth control. “Are you serious?” You ask. “Yeah…Thought that we-“ “No. I don’t care how comfortable we are at base I don’t want to take the chances of getting pregnant because sometimes those things don’t work.” “You just don’t love me. Come on I see it. You never like it when we kiss.” “Can we not do this now? Wait until we’re in the comfort of our base.”

“Whatever…Admit it you-“ Before your boyfriend could finish his sentence a zombie launched at him and attacked him. You screamed and more zombies came your way. You shot any in your way while your boyfriend was a girl zombie’s next meal. You were able to run away but as you did you watched the rest of the group leave you behind.

“GUYS! GUYS!” You tried catching up but twisted your ankle in the process. Just your damn luck. You tried to crawl away from a zombie when the girl zombie that killed your boyfriend pushed it away and crept towards you…

“Stay back!” You yell. You pull out your gun and point it at her head. You then pull the trigger…And you were out of bullets. God really isn’t on your side today huh?

The girl zombie leaned closer to you and brushed your face…She didn’t bite your face off? Maybe she was full from your boyfriend? “Illi…” She groaned out. “…What..?” You asked. “I…Illi…” “You can speak..?” You ask. Illi nodded. “Come…Not…Safe…” “I can’t…My ankle is sprained.” “I…Carry…You…” “No it’s-“ Before you can finish your sentence Illi started to pick you up.

“Hey! Put me down!” “Quiet…They’ll notice…” Illi said referring to the other zombies. You listened. You didn’t want to be zombie food.

After a long walk Illi took you into an abandoned plan and placed you in one of the passenger seats. There were all kinds of stuff in it. Vinyls. Food. Toys. And a picture…Illi places you down on her makeshift bed she made in the first class suite. “Hurt…” Illi pointed to your ankle. “Should take a few days to heal.” You say. Illi nodded. “You going to eat me?” You ask. “No…Too pretty…” “…Huh.” You say. Not a question. Just an observation.

Illi grabbed something and handed it to you. A book. “Thanks…” It was Pride and Prejudice. “You know I read this in school and didn’t pay attention to it one bit. Bored me too much.” Illi looked down like she was disappointed. “It’s fine Illi. I can read it. I’m so bored I do wanna read it.” She nods and sits next to you.

“So…You’re a zombie that can talk…And has feelings.” “Yes…” You stare down at the book. “I have to stay here a few days…Then you take me home. Okay, Illi?” “…Okay…” You nod. “Now let’s start this book. Shall we?”

In all honesty being with a zombie girl who was your age was way better than your boyfriend. Not to mention Illi was cute. And she could talk. Plus she wasn’t like him. He was always trying to get you to do things you didn’t want to but Illi? Illi immediately stopped when you told her no.

It was the last day you needed to heal and you and Illi were finishing up reading Pride and Prejudice. Illi moved closer to you. Admiring you. You were so pretty. It was no wonder why you had a boyfriend…Then you look at Illi. “What are you doing?” You ask. “Kiss…” “…You want to kiss me?” “Yes…” “Will it turn me..?” You ask. “No…Won’t…” “Are you sure..?” “Yes…” You then lean in and kiss Illi. Her eyes fluttered closed as you kissed her.

The both of you let out soft moans and continued to kiss. It was nothing like your boyfriend. It was better. Which is weird because Illi was a zombie. When the two of you pulled back Illi had a goofy smile on her face. You chuckled and said, “Was that your first kiss?” Illi shook her head. She got up and grabbed a the picture you had seen.

She pointed at a boy with black hair and a lip piercing. “You kissed him?” You asked. “Mhm…” “What happened to him?” “…Died…” “Oh…I’m sorry…” “Fine…” “Guess we lost both of our boyfriends hm?” Illi nodded. “Do you remember him?” “Not…Really…” You look down. “I’m sorry Illi…” You give her a hug and she buried her face in your shoulder. “Don’t leave…” Illi says. “Please…” You look at Illi and say, “I have to…What about my family? Friends?” “…Don’t want to…Lose you…”

You huff. Illi gave you another kiss. You kissed backed reluctantly and held her tightly.

The next day when Illi woke up and looked around but you weren’t there. She tried calling for you. Looking for you. But you weren’t responding. She then looked out one of the windows of the plane and saw a car she thought was broken down driving off…You. Illi sighed…But she thought she’d follow you.

Back at base all your friends are delighted to see you back. Of course millions of questions were asked if you were bit but you told them no. When you laid down in bed your mind thought of Illi. She must be sad that you’re gone. You felt bad and you also missed her which is weird because she’s a zombie who ate your boyfriend right in front of you!

Your door opens and it’s your friend. “Hey just checking in on you.” “Oh…I’m fine.” “Clearly you’re not. You’re all sad. Why’s that?” “Nothing…Just…” “Did you meet someone? Oh what’s his name!” She then jumped on your bed sitting down crisscrossed. “Her name is Illi.” “Her? Since when have you been into girls?” “I don’t know. Maybe that’s why I didn’t like doing anything with my boyfriend…She was so caring…And gentle…And fun to hang out with…” “But? Did she get eaten?” “No…No she uh…She was a zombie.” “You have a crush on a zombie?!” She exclaimed. “Shush! I don’t want anyone to hear you!”

“Okay okay…So Illi. The zombie.” “Yes…I kinda miss her to be honest.” “Well did you say bye?” “No…I left while she was asleep. She was asking me to stay but I knew I couldn’t. You guys thought I was dead. Am I wrong?” “No…Man. What if she’s coming to get you and eat you for leaving.” “I’d let her.” “Weirdo.” Just then there was a noise coming from your window.

“What was that…” Your friend asked. “I don’t know…” You get up. Scared shitless. Hesitantly you open the curtains and it’s Illi! “Illi?!” You exclaimed which gets your friend to rush over to the window. “Aww…She’s a cutie! Let her in!” You open the window and Illi crawls in. “Be quiet okay..?” You say. Illi clings to you and kisses you. “Is she…?” Your friend asked while you give a thumbs up. Illi then tries to take your shirt off but you push her away.

“Sorry…” She says. “It’s fine…What are you doing here?” “Miss…You…” “Awww.” Your friend said. “Illi it’s not safe for you. What if my dad saw you huh? You’d be good as dead.” “Want you…” “I do too but…Fuck Illi…” It is then you realize your father is standing in the doorway. “Dad..?” You gasp out. Illi tries to hide in front of you. “You…” He said. “Girl. Run.” Your friend whispers.

Your father pulls out his gun and that’s when you bolt. You grab Illi by the hand and run pushing her out the window then following after. The both of you are being chased by your father and other people with guns.

You’re able to get away from base and rest against a tree. Illi holds onto you and you push her off. “You. Everything was fine until I met you!” She was confused as to why you were yelling at her. She thought you’d wanted this. After all you could’ve left her to die. But you didn’t.

“I wish I never met you! I wish I never went on that damn supply run! I wouldn’t have lost my boyfriend and I wouldn’t have met you! I bet you were the reason why your boyfriend died!” Illi was hurt…But she was upset because she watched you cry. She didn’t care about the hurtful things you yelled at her…She was sad because you were sad.

Illi then hugged you tightly. Your sobs didn’t stop but you held onto her. “I’m sorry…” You whisper. “I’m sorry…I love you Illi…” You then kiss her lips and she kissed back.

“Love…You…Too….” Illi says. You smile and held her close. It was just the two of you now. And frankly? You were okay with that.
