Bc here is the thing: chiaki may have been the target of yanases affection for like 15(?) years, and he may have so much in common with him and know stuff about him probably nobody else does. But there is a side of yanase yoshino still doesn’t know (or at least not in all its complexity), bc yanase always controlled what he wanted to convey to chiaki, and always tried his best to only show off his best side, bc he thought thats what it took to be with chiaki. Even those times he acted ~weird~ around yoshino, or all that not-so-jokingly flirting yoshino just never really caught; it was never yanase doing compromising things without thinking like yoshino always does, it was always him consciously trying to throw a hint and maybe also mess with hatori in the process. So at the end of the day, most of what chiaki has seen of yanase, even the bad parts, have been completely mediated by yanase himself.

But on the other hand, who else knew about yanase’s feelings waaaay before chiaki did? who actually understood the real intentions behind every verbal attack yanase threw? who has seen the most unapologetically cunning and envious and, why not, insecure side of yanase first hand? or let me rephrase all that: who is the only person that has *actually* seen yanase in his most raw, vulnerable state? hatori.
