Superstition says that if it's lying face down,

don't pick it up.

Numerous people become aware of the coin: some stop to inspect it while others just briskly walk by, preoccupied, without giving it a second thought.

What some people seem to forget is the other half of the superstition.

The same seemingly insignificant penny, lying upside down with its face deformed from erosion and neglect,

can be flipped.

Someone will come across this penny, whether it be on a busy city sidewalk or a quiet hallway of an otherwise rambunctious building.

Although noticeably battered and beaten from the previous trials and tribulations, this person will miraculously pick it up.

People tend to forget that the most eroded and weathered coins can be salvaged and turned back into something beautiful.

What most people don't know is that there are specific ways to make these types of coins beautiful again.

However if you attempt to put in minimal effort and clean the coin the easy way, the coin loses a significant amount of value and will never gain back its original beauty.

Similar to that preciously delicate penny, people have a way of losing the sparkle in their eye. They go through hardships, life's obstacles, some more severe and destructive than others, and their once bold radiance dulls into a small flicker.

People cannot be fixed by insincere gestures, insufficient efforts; essentially these manipulations cause further deterioration.
