What about the idea of the identical cryptographic keys generated on-the-fly when (only when) 3 out of 10 or so pre-registered personnel go through the identity authentication by Expanded Password System which enables the users to make use of their episodic memory, say, non-volatile memory of their pleasant personal experience?

The crypto key thus generated will be eliminated when the program is shut down and does not exist anywhere in the universe until any combination of 3 operators of the pre-registered 10 or so work together to re-generate the identical key from their non-volatile episodic memory.

We came up with PoC in 2004 and a working prototype in 2005, but had to discontinue the project due to the lack of interest from the cybersecurity sector. We may have started the project too early. The project can be revived at any time when we secure the budget or a tech partner.

Don’t you agree that sorting out the problem of the unmanageable passwords, more accurately, unmanageable text-only passwords, is a necessary condition for sorting out the problem of digital exclusion?

Not many of us are blessed with the ability to remember dozens of all different strong text-only password safely along with the relations with corresponding accounts. Many of us who are not blessed with such abilities are excluded and actually feel as such.

It’s a conundrum that governments and businesses are still sticking to the unmanageable text-only passwords when a valid solution is already available here as image-based authentication?

Suspecting that it’s costly on citizens and systems, and it’s also insecure in terms of mathematical strength? — Those questions had been answered two decades ago.

Its practicability is vividly demonstrated in the use case of Japanese Army, who adopted it in 2013, increased the users 10-fold over the 10 years and is set to continue the use of the same software for 10 more years. The reasons? — ‘Hard-to-Forget’ and ‘Panic-Proof’ secret credentials.

Worth noting is that what is practicable in the most demanding environment is easily practicable elsewhere.

Fantastic numbers are quoted -

I would like to believe that the bulk of them has been spent for such meaningful use cases as forensics and screening of suspicious guys at the security gates of intelligence offices, military bases, nuke facilities, presidents’ residences and the like, say, for ‘identification’ of individuals.

Well, I wonder how much of them has been unwisely wasted for the wrong use cases of ‘authentication’ of individuals’ identity, i.e., for destroying the identity security that the password authentication has somehow provided.

Should 0.1% of these amounts had been invested in the digital identity scheme that enables citizens to make use of their non-volatile episodic memory a couple of years ago, all the global citizens would now be far better prepared to effectively fend off much of the cyberattacks of compromising identity security.
