In resident evil seven you find out that Marguerite had been hearing ringing in her ears and and seeing hallucinations some time after Evelyn came into the picture. She even had a brain scan for it at the local hospital and in her journal you can see the gradual turn from healthy to infected as it occurred in the month of October.Â
But in the Daughters DLC, Marguerite's transition is almost immediate (not to mention she is first one to get ill, as she infects Jack, who later infects Lucas). I donât understand why though. Evelyn made it very, very clear throughout the game that she wanted Mia as her mother, and by proxy, Ethan as her father (though Iâll get more into that another time).Â
Another thing, is that during the  the cut scene in which Ethan is trapped in the âmoldâ and he is in the hive mind, he speaks to Jack and sees Zoe. I know Lucas isnât there because he isnât dead, and I know that those present are dead because Ethan killed Jack earlier before having to choose either Zoe or Mia to cure, and if you chose Zoe, you see her die before you, and if you chose Mia, itâs greatly implied that Zoe was killed by Evelyn as punishment for wanting to leave. So where is Marguerite?Â
Adding onto that, why does she calcify and crumble after being defeated in her boss battle? Ethan didnât use the serum on her because he A) didnât have any, and B) didnât know it was a thing needed to defeat the infected because it doesnât come into light until the final Jack boss battle. Did Evelyn kill her off/allow her to die, not needing two mothers?
I mean, Ethan is able to kill the âmoldedâ that he encounters in the basement and such, but thats because they either died while turning or started to turn after death, making the creature nothing more than sentient mold inhabiting a corpse. I think this is true because Ethan sees the Deputyâs head mid turn in the fridge in Zoeâs trailer, and the deputy was very much dead (shovel through the head- there isnât any way anyone could survive that!).Â
This explains why the molded look so monstrous in comparison to the Bakers too. The Bakers are alive and well, so their monstrous side does not appear until near death/severe injury. Which connects to why Marguerite looked the way she did during her boss battle, with her distorted voice, elongated limbs and the bugs nest in her lower body; she was near death.Â
Speaking of the bugs, why does she have that power? I know that Marguerite has the lanterns that she uses to summon them and such, but how did that even come to be and why? I know it was when she got infected because she spat bugs out at Zoe, and as Iâve mentioned above, she has a bugs nest in her lower body. I know that the wholeâthe infected have super powersâ thing isnât something new in the resident evil franchise, but no one else has any similar powers. Evelyn has her mold, but she and the mold are one and the same, as its as much apart of her and the she it, not to mention sheâs the infection in âhumanâ form anyways. Thereâs the big guy Lucas forces Ethan to fight, but his âpowerâ is puke, and the molded with the stronger arms are that way because they died with something at absorbed into their body as the mold took over.Â
I donât know, this had been a thorn in my side ever since I realized it.Â
