hey, so, hopefully someone on the Discord has pointed this out already, but uh. we really don't know Mysticat's cause of death.
the Emberton Wire excerpts mention she was -- emphasis mine --"said to have been stabbed multiple times [...] with parts of her severed completely" and later theorizes about why she might have been murdered with an assumption of the stab wounds being the cause ("Perhaps that was why she was stabbed so many times!"), but... nowhere is it actually stated that this was how she died.
i realize this is a little bit of a contentious topic within the Discord (if i've done my backreading correctly), but it's very difficult to call the Emberton Wire a reliable source on the matter. we outright know their presence at the scene of the crime was opposed by law enforcement -- "we were met with a bit of resistance by the police and forensics team" -- and their report on the public statement by police doesn't mention anything except for confirmation that it was a homicide.
not only that, but the Emberton Wire is just... straight-up fully unreliable. its tone is darkly sarcastic out-of-universe, but in-universe it'd be pretty hard to prove it was any sort of satirical paper when it pretty heavily matches the tone of society at large. the Emberton Wire's politics are very conservative, to put it mildly -- it sucks up to the upper class, disparages women and the working class, advocates for child labor and outright abuse, and spreads rampant homophobia. this paper is clearly very prone to sensationalism, despite its claims of journalistic integrity. its implications that Mysticat was stabbed to death are just that -- implications.
we know that the body was stabbed. we cannot confirm when or where this stabbing took place. those stab wounds could very easily have been created post-mortem to cover up the actual cause of death because, and i cannot stress this enough, our only source for it being the cause of death is what might as well be the Minecraft equivalent of the Daily Mail, and even in that paper it is not actually stated as the cause of death.
