Redstoner (2018 version) actually added something interesting to the continuity because it implies somehow, someway, for whatever reason, Ross broke the cycle and ended the timeloop. But he wasn't freed.
He wasn't let go, and put somewhere better. He ended the cycle and he moved on.... to something different but the same. The sun is made of lapis instead of redstone, slowly growing from one block into something bigger over the course of a few episodes. his inventions are different, but he's still just as alone. he still has to weigh with his sins.
the ending of the 2018 version is abrupt, unsatisfactory, but in a way that somehow distinctly fits. in a way that's hard to tell if it was the actual intended ending, or if it was unfinished.
someone watch Redstoner and get weird with me
