Ichiryuu: Whenever I watch you Kings train, I feel like a mother hen watching her chicks learn to fly.
Coco: Interesting analogy. Chickens are infamously bad at flying.
I know I’ve already mentioned what a wack relationship IGO and Gourmet Corp has but man. Just the fact that all the IGO higher ups know the Gourmet Corp guys by name and chat about them like their little brother’s annoying friends is so insane to me
Spoilers below about that in retrospect
Ichiryuu: We’re kind of missing something, guys.
Sunny: Cohesion?
Toriko: Teamwork?
Coco: A general sense of what we’re doing?
Ichiryuu And Zebra is not here.
Sunny: Oh, and that, yeah.
Ichiryuu: Are you guys bringing anything to the party?
Toriko: Yeah, an empty stomach.
Sunny: My sparkling personality.
Zebra: A flagrant disregard for common decency.
Komatsu: …
Komatsu: Chips.

Toriko and Ichiryuu’s dynamic:
The subtle hints of how sinister and clever Yukiya is/can be and not a blockhead like his father and the others would believe. His older brother knows that Yukiya is prepping him up, not taking the credit, always playing the fool, is used to be underestimated as long as no one bothers him, even though he’s talented with swords and fighting. He protects his town and its people like a hawk from abusive tyrants. This is one trait that will make him a master strategist and a leader someday, a trait that Wakamiya/Nazukihiko will cherish. And greatly needed.
Before After
Episode 2: The Blockhead and the Second Son
That’s why his recruitment is not only a matter of coincidence and a question of fate, but also a pure calculation on the side of the brothers Wakamiya and Lord Natsuka.
