âWhat the fuck is this?â Agatha grabbed at your heavily bruised wrist and yanked the police jacket up your arm.Â
âOfficer Harkness-â You try to get her attention but the blaze behind her eyes is murderous.Â
âDid Rio do this to you? She bruise you up? The fuck is this? Iâll kill her - I swear to-â
âStop it, I wonât be part of your pissing contest! You two wanna get back together you work it out Iâm done!â
âThe fuck are you talking about? I donât want Rio- I want you! I love you! Fuck tell me now? Did she hurt you? She do this?â Agathaâs spit if flying as she seeâs more bruises covering you.Â
âAgatha stop it I donât need you to save me!â You fight but a rustling could be heard from across the way. Both of you grabbed your side arm and pointed it towards the noise.Â
You walked forward, hunched down just a little as you pointed your gun into the dark. Agatha not even a step behind you, glad she insisted on you wearing a vest now. Not happy you thought you could lead out in front.Â
You hold your hand up and then point to the top of the abandoned carlot, there was a corner fisheye mirror at the top of some barbed wire.Â
Agatha spotted it, trying to make out some kind of shadowy figure.Â
Your finger presses a little harder on the trigger, ready for a fight.Â
{Three weeks ago}
The coffee drip was hitting the pot of dark caffeine. The precinct was as quiet as it could get. You were still reeling from the crime scene. From red string wrapped around pins to photos - nothing is helping you.Â
You rubbed at your jaw, staring ahead, willing the clues to jump out at you.Â
Your life has changed a lot in a very short time. Youâd been offered a prime spot to be a homicide detective by the Chief. No longer a cop on the beat, no, youâd made it, youâd taken the tests, done the background screening and interviews. All to prepare you for this, but fuck it didnât prepare you for this.Â
Nothing could have prepared you for her.Â
Chief was giving you homicide yes - but your partner would be none other than the âWitch Killerâ herself, Agatha Harkness.Â
By far the strictest, meanest, and, Dare you say it; sexiest cop in the city.Â
Who hadnât had a partner in over a decade. One guy was a war vet with a big body count, at the end heâd been on mental health leave. Guys didnât last one shift with her, one even quit the force entirely. So yeah, intimidating was an understatement.Â
Now you empathize with all of them, Harkness was a raging tyrant. She didnât so much as let you speak while she walked a crime scene, calling you âProbie.â Making you get her coffee and donuts, not letting you talk. It was grunt work; she made it apparent that you were below her. You were stupid, and she was older and understood the game.Â
Fuck once youâd thought you had a good idea, and she left you at the scene, yeah drove away in the squad car. You had to take public fucking transit to get back.
Agatha Harkness was a bitch.Â
But you wouldnât quit, wouldnât give her sexy ass the pleasure. Somewhere in her cruelty, you think she liked that, this game she had you playing. Having to earn her respect or some shit.Â
This morning, youâd been called in to a crime scene from the Scarlet Witch. A serial killer that Harkness couldnât catch; theyâd been playing cat and mouse for five years. Just as she got close, the fucker disappeared.Â
The body was of Darcy Lewis;Â 30 year old woman, five foot five, IT genius. Tech degrees coming out the wazhoo. Somehow sheâd been face down in a puddle, the killer who labotomized her after torturing her for what you thought was information. Then choked her until the light left her eyes.Â
Now, as you looked at the photos of the lacerations and the labotomy incision, you felt an overwhelming anger. You need to be a better detective, if not for your own sake, for Darcy.Â
Which is why you were still staring at crime scene photos instead of living your life.Â
Drinking stale, burnt coffee as you missed your booty call. Your much-needed booty call, because fuck if you didnât need a release from this tension.Â
Looking over every document from the last killings. While Agatha fell asleep with her light on, exhaustion was taking her.Â
You looked like Columbo with another cup of coffee, sticking pins to a corkboard, looking for clues in dusty reports.Â
Your phone vibrated and your eyes shot to Agathaâs sleeping form. You yanked the phone out of your pocket to see Rioâs name.
Rio đVidal: You sure you donât have thirty minutes?
You and Agent Vidal had been doing a little therapeutic stress relief. It was an accident at first, but now a routine.Â
SometimesâŠyou just needed to be spanked, spit on, degraded. To not get a say. It was consensual, and you made her wear a condom. It was all fine, you kept telling yourself it was. Just stress management. But it was clear that Rio wanted more, wanted something beyond you needing a cruel beating and fuck.Â
You huffed, putting your phone back in your pocket. You didnât have time for a love life. You needed to catch the witch.Â
You walk forward but notice something stuck to the bottom of your boot, lifting it to see a receipt for a small computer repair shop.
You look over at Agathaâs sleeping form, making the quick decision to go alone. Opening your drawer to swipe your gun and badge, taking your heavy jacket off the back of the chair, you tiptoe over to Agathaâs desk thatâs joined to the front of yours, reaching over her body to muffle with your palm the sound of the car keys.Â
Then youâre out of there, the sun is rising, but thereâs a chance the shop is open early, if not, youâll wait there.Â
You park three blocks over and sigh as you walk up on the curb, eyeing the computer repair shop, itâs half-grate open, half closed. You open the glass door and duck your head under the metal security. You grab your flashlight and shine it past where the security dim lights illuminate a hoarder's worthy amount of old electronics. Computers half destroyed, parts everywhere, screw drivers and bolts in every corner.Â
âAnyone in here? Itâs New York PD!â You shout, then hear something shuffle in the back.Â
âI just got a few questions! Anyone in here?â You say again but thereâs not a sound, your hand goes to your holster.Â
Another sound of rustling and then a shelf of computer gear is falling to ontop of you, but you slide under it and shout.Â
âNEW YORK PD STOP WHERE YOU ARE!â You say and then see a flash of a guy trying to make it to the back door, you donât follow him. Instead of running out the front of the place and moving towards the back.Â
You run fully into Agathaâs body and yelp at her, sheâs glaring at you, face red - fully enraged. But you run from around her to the corner.Â
The guy is faster and he fires it just misses your foot, youâre trying to stop your body from the motion of falling. When Agatha grabs you by your collar and hurdles you back behind a brick wall.Â
âWho the fuck is firing at you, Probie?â
âDonât know!â You say as three more shots fire into the dark, you twist around to look behind your partner. âStay here.â You instruct, and sheâs scoffing at you but before she has time to call you an idiot for the two hundredth time this week. Youâre running back around the shop, and you go to the fire escape. Jumping to grab the latter and bring it down. Your stupid idea has to be fast if itâs going to work.Â
You climb the fire escape and then onto the roof, you hear two more shots go off.Â
Then you run to the far side where the noises are, Agatha shouts from the end.Â
âNYPD -Â YOU ARE FIRING AT OFFICERS! STAND DOWN!â
But you see a bucket of water on the top of the building from a window washer kit.Â
Agathaâs turn to fire, and you see the man pull out a second gun. Heâs gonna hit her, she should have stayed back.Â
You act fast, you grab the handle, and then lean over the top, spotting a man in his forties with a revolver. You toss the water ontop of his form, the soapy window clearer has him slipping on the metal ledge and he goes plummeting to the dumpster below.Â
He yelps in pain but his guns fall to the cement below, Agatha is fast to make her way over to him. Roughly yanking him by his shirt off of the dumpster and onto the floor, taking her cuffs out.Â
âYou just shot at NYPD, asshole. I beg you to resist arrest, please make my fucking night.â She growls at him.Â
You look over to see that Detective Harnkess has him, before going to the other side of the building to get down.Â
âArenât you supposed to read me my rights?â The guy whines, scared of the duo.Â
âYou have a right to shut the fuck up, anything you squal like a little girl about Iâll tell on you for. You shot at my probie mother fucker.â Agatha said just as you were out of earshot. âBig mistake.â
You make your way back to Agatha as sheâs frisking him and then shoving him into the car.Â
âDid you-â Agatha points to the open business.Â
âI knocked, he shoved a shelf on top of me.â You threw your hands up.Â
âYou okay?â Agatha asked, completely throwing you for a loop.Â
âIâm fine, I want to get a warrant to search the place.â
âYou need to get checked out by medical.â Agatha said bordering too close on concerned.Â
âIâm fine-â
âYouâre obviously suffering from brain trauma if you thought coming to a perp's place of business without your commanding officer was a good idea, Probie. Thatâs a good way to get killed. You donât want your pension, do ya?â Harkness' harsh tones didnât phase you, and you donât know why. But something about her rigidity isnât phasing you right now.
Youâre close to something.Â
You go to your phone and call for a warrant.Â
âThe fuck you think youâre doin?â Harkness growls as you walk away from her.Â
âGetting my warrant. If âThe Witchâ ordered a computer to be fixed. I wanna know if she bought it and never picked it up where it went! Why he ran!â You gruff back, holding the receipt between your fingers, stalking off towards the business again. You donât see the second clue of Agathaâs deeper feelings.Â
As she smirks just a bit, admiring your new spine. Glad to see you had one, she figured it was just hiding. Agatha had been especially hard on you, but it was all tests, and you were passing now with flying colors. Agatha also may have watched your ass as you walked away, fuck did her Probie have a great ass.Â
âHey, when do I get my lawyer?â The guy yelled from the backseat.
âWhen I let my fist in your ass and find the hemorrhoid who wants to represent you, douchebag.â Harkness states and then goes back to the driver's side to call in more officers.Â
Four hours later, youâre walking the business, and Agatha is back at the precinct.Â
You hear her radio for you, telling you to get back. But you need to know if youâre right.Â
You head to the back, where you were sure the guy was hiding. Your fingers trail over the desk, but itâs your knee that hits the side of it - finding the desk hollow.Â
âHey, I got something!â You shout and Agent Hill comes around you knock with your knuckles on the side to see that it is indeed hollow.Â
âDamn Probie, nice find.â Hill takes a photo of it and then you both rumage around until you press a secret button below the desk.Â
Sure enough secret compartments open up all around the back office, weapons, drugs, money printing.Â
âFuck, jackpot! Call for more officers, we need to get fingerprints and a whole team in here! Harkness Probie found the first least in this case!â Maria Hill shouted at the guys and then turned and winked at you. âMamaâs gonan be so proud of you.â She jokes and then goes back to taking photos.Â
You find more computers, all locked, all being processed, nothing that you actually wanted to find.Â
When you ride back with another officer to the precinct you groan rolling your shoulder. Sore from your sliding attempt under the shelf.Â
You open the door, and thereâs applause as you step in.Â
âGO HARKNESS PET!â
âPROBIEâS GOT BALLS!â
âHarkness Homocide Honey!â
Aw, sexual harassment at itâs finest.Â
You ignore them, your boots falling a little harder than necessary on the floor. You bite the inside of your cheek and wave your hand good-naturedly at the few who stood up to clap. This was stupid; they werenât actually applauding at your great detective work, but rather that you werenât an idiot.Â
Or maybe that Harkness hadnât broken you yet. But there was a pool going around on how many days youâd last. So it wasnât like you thought anyone really was happy for your discovery.Â
You just try and keep your back straight on your way to the interrogation side.Â
You walk into the back room to hear arguing.Â
FBI Agent Vidal and Detective Harkness are screaming at each other as you open the door. Spit flying and their stance, wanting to brawl. The poor guy whoâs recording the interrogation room seems to be excited that you walked in.Â
âYou guys they can hear you from the hallway, what is-â
Rio talks on top of you first, not about to let Harkness give her bullshit.
âThe money laundering is from a bigger case Iâm working with the DEA. It belongs to us. That cash was printed. I need what you have so far-â Vidalâs jaw is jutted to the side, annoyed as she explains to you, but Agatha scoffs and starts to laugh.Â
âWhy donât you sniff the money and see homicides piss already on it, you go bark up another tree.â Agatha thrusts her hips out a little, juvenile to make her point.Â
Rio puts her head back and stares at the ceiling as if to ask for god to give her the strength not to end the detective's life right here.Â
âJeez, youâre just so helpful, Aggie, itâs amazing.â Rio smiles falsely but steps forward, veins in her arms bulging with the chance to get to punch her.Â
âVidal, why donât you go back to the FBI and the DEA and tell them you how you like to steal other peopleâs cases, huh? Better yet, should I remind you why they call you Death?â She antagonizes, only making the other woman roll her eyes.Â
âIs this seriously why you didnât text me back?â Rio breaks the tension only to bring the heat upon you. It does itâs job, stopping the conversation. But you see it as Rio being completely unprofessional by pissing on you herself. The guy recording the interrogation roomâs ears turns red as she stares at the screen, pretending not to be there.Â
âThe fuck did you say to my Probie?â Agatha puffed out her chest and you glared at Rio, too. She had to say that in front of Harkness, she just had to.Â
âNot here, stop.â You scowl, not aware that the heat coming from the detective is jealousy. Rio gives a snarl in her direction, and you swear the Latina is so fucking cocky.
âYou let her go in alone, thatâs what I hear? Fuck you, Harkness, she could have gott-â
But thatâs when Harkness takes a decisive step forward, and theyâre only inches from each other. But itâs not to share a kiss, itâs to tear Agent Vidalâs skull open with her bare hands.Â
âWhy donât you let me take care of my own? Huh?â Agatha licks her bottom lip, like a large animal does before devouring a smaller one.Â
Vidal lifts her finger and points it to the detective's vest, hovering just before touching. A threat all geared up;
âIf she gets hurt because your ego is-â
âOh, woah, how about this? You stay the fuck away from my partner. Thatâs MY PARTNER YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!â Agatha shouts loud enough for everyone outside the door to hear. The first time sheâs called you that. To you or anyone else, fuck you almost donât believe she said it.Â
You peel them apart, itâs insane how much muscle they both have, like moving two boulders.Â
âBoth of you shut the fuck up.â You snap actually bringing the two dominants to stop speaking. âThis is beyond unprofessional, letâs go talk to the perp instead of having a debate on whoâs dick is bigger contest, huh?âÂ
Agatha smiles at Rio whoâs seething and youâre not sure what thatâs about but you manhandle Rio, pushing her back to the metal seats to overseve.
You give the same mambo jumbo bullshit you give every department who wants your case;
âWe are happy to turn over what we find once we find it.â You speak for Harkness, who scoffs, not agreeing. Rioâs grabbing your wrist, a little too like she had a few nights ago.Â
âYou get hurt out there? You go check with medical?â She questions like the doting girlfriend and you want to remind her itâs just sex, worse itâs rough, cruel, violent sex. You open your mouth to say something cutting when the older detective gets another hit in.Â
âWhy you wanna lick her wounds?â Harkness barks back again, and you twist back to shoving your partner out of the back room.
âYou didnât tell me you were seeing Vidal. Whatâs with that?â She interrogates you instead, using he calculated stare to watch your every micro expression. Youâd seen her use it in the field.Â
You shake your head like you just pulled it out of your own ass.Â
âIâm sorry I forgot to tell you who I was fucking while we were having such bonding moments. Youâve hazed me since day one. Why should I share anything with you?â You say as though sheâs the enemy now.Â
âSo itâs just fucking?â Harkness arches an eyebrow, picking what she wanted out of that monologue. Her shoulder dropped a few inches; sheâs not happy about it, but mollified that itâs simply sex. Because if itâs more than sheâd have to do something. You stare at the detective, missing all of this.Â
âUnbelievable, can we go do our jobs now?â You open the door without asking her, and you drop the file down on the table.
Youâre gonna ask the god damn questions.Â
âHey Tony, you know I think we got off on the wrong foot. Seeing as how now you got a felony, battery, and oh right attempted murder. You want a towel, you look a little wet? Cup of coffee?â You try fake niceties.Â
Heâs still drenched in the soapy water, no cop is about to give him a towel after firing on an officer. Fuck his forehead was bleeding a little, it hadnât when you saw him last. Maybe a few scuffs from falling onto a dumpster.Â
âBandaid?â You point to his deep gash that needed stitches, and his eyes flicker to Detective Harkness just over your shoulder. Telling you everything you need to know about how he got it.Â
âYour Daddy will just give me another cut, but tell me will you give me the same princess bandaids she gives you?â Tony nods towards Harkness, and she steps forward, but you stop her with your hand. Surprisingly, even the older officer, who didnât stop for fucking anyone.Â
âYou got a lot of trouble coming your way, I think youâd rather we book you. But youâre gonna sit here until you tell me who the witch was meeting.â
Tony shut up, and his pupils dilated just a bit. You waited, hoping heâd bite.Â
âYou think your Daddy carries a heavy stick, but I've got bigger fish.â
âLike the Witch?â You press, and he looks at the camera and back at you. âBigger than that, huh?â
âI want a lawyer.â He finally decides and you sigh. Standing up Harkness opens the door and you both walk out.Â
Going into the glass door that has you and Harkness' desks in it, stacks of evidence boxes and the stupid bulletin board. You take the receipt out of your pocket and pin it to the bulletin board.Â
Rio walks in with a case folder.Â
âIâll show you mine if you show me yours.â She says to Harkness who waves her hand toward the board.Â
âBe my guest, just donât touch what doesnât belong to you.â She reminds and the two share a look you miss because youâre staring at the board.Â
Rio hands the file, and Agatha hands her another folder; the two communicate about much more than the case.Â
âWhose name is on the lease?â You say over your shoulder, eyes still looking at the picture of corpses.
âStark.â She says, and you pull at your fingers.
âHeâs old money, though, right? What about the payment? Who paid the lease?â You twist and Harkness lifts a paper and smirks.Â
âNot Stark.â
Vidal attempts to get a look over the rim of the folder, but Agatha snaps it shut, handing it to you as you leave the office, the two of them hot on your tail.Â
You open the room to see Stark waiting for his lawyer.Â
âIt must have pissed you off when he became better than you.â You say too excited to throw it in her face.Â
âWhat?â He pales, and you step in deeper just as the door shuts in Rioâs face with Harkness's smile.Â
âI mean, you were always the money and the brains. Has to be rough to be passed up, not even told the whole story. Sucks because he thought the world of you, right? Until he figured it out, how to be better.â You were guessing you were bluffing.Â
But Starkâs fidgeting in his chair, youâve struck a chord. You thought of all youâd learned from Agatha, you had to cut this man deep.Â
âWhat was it, Tony? Your twink figured out he didnât need you anymore?â You figured he was either going to be offended at the sexual innuendo or, or what was happening. He touched his nose, pulling at his shirt; he was feeling inadequate.Â
Youâd just seen two dominant women swinging their dicks around, you could do this.Â
âDid he find a bigger dick to suck? Or was the witch just that much smarter, that it wasnât the tech, the guns, the drugs, the money, she fulfilled what you couldnât?â You just keep biting at it, hoping you are making ground. But itâs worked.
Boom, he shot out of his seat, and Harkness stepped in front of you.Â
âEasy Playboy.â She put her hand up so heâd settle down but it worked just as youâd hoped.Â
âHE THOUGHT HE COULD MAKE IT WITHOUT ME!â He screams dramatically, a little too dramatically.
âWho? Give us a name - you small dick prick!â Harkness antagonized, and he sat in his seat.Â
âVISION! His fucking name is Viz, I donât know his last name I swear!â
âToo busy fucking and doin' crime then?â Harkness continued on your trail and you stepped back and looked at the two-way mirror.Â
You could almost see Rioâs lips moving, knowing what she wanted you to ask.Â
You twist around one more time,
âYou think heâll take the fall for your operation turning over?â
âHe couldnât do any of it without me and Bruce!âÂ
There it was, there was a fucking clue.Â
You knew that name, you open the door and walk out of the interrogation room. Vidal follows you, as Agatha gets Tonyâs full confession.Â
You pull apart the files looking for that name. Vidal sits on your desk, rather cockily, if you were being honest.Â
âYou told me you had an asshole boss. You didnât say it was Harkness.â
âYet you figured it out.â You said not looking at her, finger moving over testimonies from victims.Â
âYeah, little digging. Why didnât you tell me first?â
âRio, why is this an issue? You two lose a drinking contest?â
âWe were a thing for a while, on again off againâŠâ Vidal tries to downplay it and now you put down the paper and look at her.Â
âIs this a conflict for you? You need to end it?â You ask, unsure of why your stomach clenches at the thought. Rioâs face shifts so fast to steel that you want to know what sheâs putting a brave face for.Â
âNot for me, what we do wonât change.â She says a little too evenly and you donât know what's worse, her calm or her angry.
âBruce, tell me where I know Bruce?â
Harkness comes back in with a newspaper, she shifts through it and then finds the technology section in the business.Â
She rips the paper and then takes a pin and stabs above the picture of Bruce Banner.Â
âShit.â Now that complicated everything.Â
âYou called it, Starkâs old money with drug problems. But heâs got a pal from his old stomping ground. Mr. Bruce Banner, word on the street heâs got a wicked temper. Tends to break his toys, and sometimes his women.â
âWord on who Vision is?â Rioâs tone is bored, like she had already figured out Banner. But neither you or Harkness asked her.Â
âNo last name is gonna be fun.â Sarcasm is thick in this room.Â
âSounds like a street name Ags, not a first name at all.â
âIt does, but donât call me that and get off Probies desk. You donât need to make yourself comfortable.â Harkness growls out but you plop down on the tiny uncomfortable sofa, a few papers falling at the movement.Â
The two of them look at you as you bring your phone out.Â
âProbie, are we boring you, wanna go get a juice box and play Tetris? Take a nap and come back when youâre ready?â She says, but it doesnât have its normal bite.Â
âYou know itâs a mystery why no one likes you, truly,â Vidal says but it sounds too close to defending you, and Harkness doesnât like it. She opens her mouth to say something nasty, but you turn your phone around to show the screen.Â
âHeâs buying property like crazy - saying itâs for affordable housing.â
âWhat part of town?â Vidal asks to get out her phone to figure out who to call for contracts. Who made legal documents, who paid who, where the structural lines are - construction plans, the works. Fuck if someone was working for Bruce but was Unionized, she wanted to know about it.Â
âTwo blocks from Stark's crack den of a Best Buy.â You say and scroll through the articles, all saying how amazing he was for the community.
âAny word from his ex toys?â Vidal questions and Harkness huffs and tilts her head to the side.Â
âLooks like youâre buying us lunch.â Agatha moves around her desk to push two boxes back onto another then drag a box over with enough dust to be considered human ashes.Â
âIâll call to get the banking records for Stark's business, but for Bannerâs records are gonna take more than a receipt and a prayer.â Vidal smiles more to show Harkness her teeth than anything else.Â
âHeâs lawyering up, but itâs still a fucking attempted murder charge. I donât know what they teach FBI agents these days.â Harkness snarkily adds.Â
Rio is heading out of your office as she puts the phone to her ear and goes up a block for subs.Â
âYou disappoint me, Probie, you could do better than that.â The detective says, but youâre not paying attention to her, and she doesnât like that one bit.Â
She snaps her fingers in your direction, but when you look, sheâs more frustrated.Â
âWhy are you sleeping with an agency putz?â Her accent flares just a bit, showing sheâs really tired or really annoyed with you.
âCan we not do this again? I didnât realize you two had been an item, itâs my bad -â Your voice strains.Â
âYou think Iâm saying this because I want Vidal?â Her eyes widen, and you donât really think about why.Â
âI really donât want to make a thing, if you two-â
âYouâre not being a very good detective. I canât stand the suit. Iâm saying you need to find someone worthy of your time.â Her irritation is palpable.Â
This is such a contrast from the hazing and downright assholery youâd been given so far - that you have to comment on it.Â
âYou know, three days ago you were calling me a sorry excuse for the badge. Had me getting you coffee and basically having me wear a dunce cap.â Itâs not nearly as gritty as you could have been, but you hear the whiny truth in your words.Â
Agatha looked at the closed glass door and then back at you.Â
âNow youâve been in a gunfight and found a break in the case. Seems like a little challenge and youâre easily motivated.â She says like sheâs the best teacher.Â
âIf that's what you want to call it sure, but Iâm not your pet Harkness. This break in the case-âÂ
Her face darkens, no longer simple jealousy.Â
âYouâre kidding yourself if you think youâre not my problem. Now we figure out the money trail. Stark is guilty of attempted murder, sure - but itâs not helpful toÂ
our case.Â
If you give me lip again, or date that poor bit of boots, Iâll remind you how you broke rank and took my keys. You go into a gunfight again, Iâll have you pushing paperwork until you're geriatric.â
You stood up, and Harkness didnât back down.Â
âYouâre telling me if I fuck Vidal, youâll ruin my career?â You repeat back to her, just to be clear.Â
Agatha looks up at the ceiling and pretends to decide. Just as you are speaking again;
âYou know the first week of you bossing me around and treating me like crap was scary. But you're losing your edge.â You say, fear under the surface. Youâre poking the bear.Â
âThat so?â She smiles widely.Â
âYeah, I think youâre wrong.â You should stop, you want to stop, but you keep talking.Â
âOh?â Harkness asks, amused.Â
âWhat if itâs not one, the witch?â
Now the detectiveâs entire body grows rigid, youâd stepped on her toes for sure now.Â
âYou got any evidence to go with that?â It comes out like a threat. A reminder that Agatha had been on this case far longer than youâd held the badge. But just maybe it was the idea that you could be right that made her so defensive.
âNo,â you say simply and feel a little less brave.Â
âStart looking through the files,â she says and stalks out of the office to the chief.Â
You chew on your bottom lip, but sit at your desk and start to leaf through Bruceâs related police reports.Â
Hours passed, a second corkboard got dragged inside. Vidal pushed the papers off the sofa to manspread.Â
Sub sandwich wrappers were crinkled in the wastebasket. Agatha unleashes her long, gorgeous hair to scratch at her scalp.Â
Eventually, you open your laptop and start to look at the pictures Hill sent over.Â
You type rapidly to Hill, making Harkness twist in her swivel chair to eye you.Â
âProbie, share with the class?â
âIâm trying to see if we can get the footage from the camera across the street. Maybe weâll see if Bruce came by the shop?â
âYou got CVC footage?â Harkness quirks an eyebrow but Vidal laughs.Â
âYouâre showing your age Ags.â
âDonât call me that. Does Hill think we could get it?â Agatha is getting really tired of Vidal.Â
âSheâs typing, the question is how much footage do they have, or if it recycles after twenty-four hours.â You say picking up a Diet Coke that Vidal bought you.Â
You chew on the straw as you wait for Hill to write back.Â
âNone of these police reports has Bruceâs name.â Vidal boots hell slides a box away from her, throwing the lid on it.Â
âYou know we could email you with our findings by tonight, keep you in the loop. You donât have to stay and babysit, I got Probie just fine without your HR greedy hands on this.â Harkness antagonizes, and you rub at your face. You get a ding on your computer for a notification from Hill.Â
âYou two shut it please,â you click open a huge cloud storage link. âOh fuck.â
âWhat is it?â Rio is standing to look over your shoulder.Â
âMonths of footage.â
âOh, look at that, popcorn time,â Agatha says and you canât believe it but she means it.Â
You three close the blinds, hook your computer up to cast to a TV. That Harkness balances on top of her desk and some caseload boxes.Â
They shut off the lights, and both of them kick off their shoes, so you do too.Â
Then itâs a sleepover, Vidal takes off her vest and her sidearms, placing them on your desk, much to Harkness' grumblings.
Agathaâs long hair curls around her nice button-down as you hold the remote fast forwarding, rewinding, pausing. Taking screenshots and printing out people who frequented the tech store.Â
âDid we see that car before?â You question as Vidal digs another potato chip out of the bag. Somehow, you ended up in the middle of this sofa party.Â
âWho fucking knows.â Vidal grumbles, getting beyond cranky.Â
But as the sunset again, you still hadnât slept. You were finding it harder to keep your eyes open. You rub at them, trying to get the sleep out.Â
âLetâs start this up again tomorrow,â Rio says, pretending not to see how tired you are.Â
âWhy donât you like watching Stark order food for the seventeenth day in a row?â Harkness doesnât like the idea of them stopping the search, not only was this the first good lead sheâd had in too long. But the idea of Rio tucking in her Probie was making her body fill with rage.Â
âCome on, someone saved your life today. The least you could do is let her sleep in a bed tonight.â Vidal reminded Harkness, who finally turned to see you almost asleep.Â
âProbie!â She shouted, and you jerked awake, pissing Vidal off further.Â
âIâm awake!â You catch yourself before falling forward.
âGo home, come back at six. We have more to go through.â She tells you, you stand up, your hips hitting both older women as you stand.Â
âYes, boss.â You say much to Harkness' delight as she smiles at Rio with a righteous gleam. Â
The three of you pack your shit like sleepwalkers, you head out first and Harkness grabs Vidals' arm, stopping her from following you.
You donât wanna know what thatâs about, you go to your car and head home.Â
Rolling the window down so that the cold air hits your face, not wanting to fall asleep at the wheel.Â
By the time youâre home, you arenât sure if you had energy to take off your boots, much less your work clothes.Â
You donât even make it to the bedroom, lying down on your ancient sofa. You're asleep before you can grab a blanket off the floor.Â
A few hours pass and then a high pitch buzz is waking you up, you wake up - fumbling a little to stand, you take of your big coat as the buzzer continues.Â
You look at the clock on the oven to see itâs four am. Too early for visitors, you press the call button.Â
âWho is it?â Your voice is deep with sleep but the response is very awake.
âRio, let me up.â
You press to unlock the gate, then unhinge the bolt on your door. Looking around at the mess that is your house you sigh and shuffle into the bathroom to brush your teeth. Kicking off your boots in the hallway.Â
Rio opens the door, and she looks like sheâs showered and had sleep, which canât be right. Sheâs holding two cups of coffee and a brown bag with breakfast sandwiches.Â
You take off your uniform top, now just in a white tank top.
She places the goodies on the kitchen table but continues to look at you.
âYou look like hell,â Rio says, looking at your bed head and overall grumpiness.Â
âGee, thanks,â you tell her, going into the kitchen to retrieve two clean plates for this impromptu breakfast.Â
âI think we should talk, I mean, I know youâve been trying not to talk to me about this and-â
âIs this about you and Harkness?â You question, and her face scrunches.Â
âWhat, no, itâs about us.â Vidal tells you, and you think for a second - making her pause.Â
You lift your tank top off, and then your sports bra, letting them fall to the old wood floor.Â
Rioâs mouth opens just a bit. Youâve got her.Â
Her eyes fall to your tits and then your face for two seconds and then your tits again.Â
âDaddy, I need it.â You say, and you can see the muscle in Rioâs jaw strain. Like she wants to open her mouth and say âweâre talking about thisâ but she canât.Â
She moves fast, getting you bent over, ripping your pants down your frame, then your thermals and underwear.Â
Her hand slapping down onto your ass cheeks so hard you jut forward. But you twist to kick her, going for her shin. You get your kick but are thrown back down onto the kitchen table so hard that one of the plates falls onto the floor.Â
You lose the oxygen in your lungs for a second, and Rio takes that as her time to take a hand between your bodies, to unzip her work trousers, pull out her cock.Â
You struggle underneath her as she pins you with one arm.Â
You kick and wiggle, working hard to push her off of you.Â
Only for Rio to grab your hair, not fair.Â
âThat's all you got?â You ask, which to you two is a kinky sort of green light.Â
Rio wrenches your hair harder so your head is next to her face, your face scrunched in discomfort at the pain.Â
âYou brat, if you want Daddyâs cock youâll have to behave better than this.â
You twist to spit at her face, and Rio releases your hair long enough for you to wiggle away and run as best you can with your pants around your ankles.Â
But Rio plays dirty as she stops on your pants, bunched, and you collide hard with the floor. Knees and wrists are taking the brunt of it, as your ass is still in the air.Â
Rio covers your body with her own, body weight crushing down on you so you canât move.Â
âYield whore, give me your holes like you know you want it.â Sheâs too horny, and sheâll make a mistake.Â
âFuck you.â
Rio laughs, and then you feel her cock doing its own breaking and entering act into your tight cunt.Â
âOH GOD!â You gawk through clenched teeth, your hands going to the hardwood, nails digging in as you attempt to pull yourself away.Â
But Rioâs hands grab at your wrists too hard, just the way you like it.Â
Sheâs pushing inside of you and squeezing your wrists like youâre her pretty little victim.Â
The game is too sweet.Â
âYield like my good girl. SĂ© mi puta personal. DĂ©jame adorar a mi puta. ĂĄmame de vuelta.â She says as you grunt and try to drag yourself away from her.
You could yield.Â
You could call your safe word, and it would all be over.Â
But instead you try to close your legs, to push you out of you - even as your cunt continued to swallow her shaft.Â
âDaddyâs little whore, you canât close your legs. Iâm giving you your medicine now.â Rio says like a horrible predator, and it makes you wetter. She uses her knee to knock at the inside of your thigh, to keep you spread - ass up. You're face down into the ground, arms being held tightly so you canât so much as inchworm away.Â
âYou think the rest of my precinct will smell me on you when you go in.â
You moan, you hate that you moan - giving in too easily. But your back arches like a cat.Â
âThatâs my girl, Daddyâs going to pump and dump inside of you. Push my seed inside real good, make sure it leaks out in front of everyone. I own you.â She says, and your orgasm builds, but just as youâre tightening your hold of her meaty cock.Â
You feel the wet warmth flood inside of you - she was really releasing her load in you.Â
Then she bit your neck so hard it was sure to have blood, and you scream so hard your throat feels like itâs ripping to shreds.
You gush around her cock, soaking her work pants, as her tan dick smears a mixture of your slick and her sperm all around your walls.
When she finally stops thrusting, you sag underneath her, post orgasm break usually making you warm and dumb.Â
But as you feel her seed spill from you still, a sticky trickle down your clit you push Rio off of you. Sheâs heavy on top of you as she falls onto her back with an âoofâ.
You take deep breaths, and Rioâs face is shocked, wanting to hold you like normal - the only time you become cuddly for her was after a rough go - with blood and bruises.Â
âYou didnât use a condom?â You say, even though you know the truth.Â
âSo, youâre on a birth control.â Rio said too fast for you to consider that an accident. You shift up and glare at her.Â
âWhat the fuck?â You canât believe her - canât believe how hard you came from the sensation of her either.Â
Rioâs hairâs no longer in the bun, her eyeliner's smudged, and her lips open and close to defend.Â
âWhat? You said you werenât sleeping with anyone else. What does it matter?â Her cocky attitude has you glaring at her. This was on purpose, so, so on purpose.Â
You stand feeling the cum start to slide out of you against your lips and inner thighs.Â
âYou liked the idea of me filling you a minute ago!â She shouts angrily, defensive, like itâs Daddyâs right to cum inside.Â
âYou did that because youâre being territorial, not for me!â You yell back, slamming the bathroom door shut behind you. Turning the shower on and trying to get clean before you have to leave.Â
You can hear Rio stomping into your room to find a new pair of nice pants. Making herself at home not only to make a mess in your cunt but in your closet. You hate the domestic itch that has you thinking she should keep clothes here, too.Â
When you get into the office with your hair in a wet bun, Harkness is lying on the sofa, her pants unbuttoned, shirt wrinkled, obviously having slept there. But the blinds are up, and sheâs blinking at the corkboard.
You hold up the coffee youâd just poured for her by the station.
She takes it, not looking at you, not thanking you.Â
You sigh and go to your desk.Â
âLittle cold out for your hair to be wet.â
âDid you watch the rest of the footage?â
âYour coffee cup is from downtown. Rio, come see you this morning?â She uses her detective skills for nefarious purposes.Â
âYou told the Chief we need those bank records,â You say like sheâs having the same conversation you are.Â
âStark lawyer is pleading self-defence - that you hit him first.âÂ
Harkness gets off the sofa abruptly and opens a locker she stole, opening it and changing her shirt.Â
You are turned away from her already, and youâre glad - you arenât sure if you could see her toned stomach and strong arms right now.Â
You open the recordings again, ready to resume what happened last night.Â
âThat home movie isnât even half done and all we know is that Starkâs got a lot of enemies and loves take out,â Harkness adds as you take a long swig of coffee. âYou have a lovebite, Probie.âÂ
Agatha says, voice trying to hide her jealousy, and then once sheâs buttoned up again, she walks out to go see the chief again.Â
Your hand goes to your neck and you can feel the ridges from the bite.Â
Fuck.Â
After mountains of makeup, you set up the videos again, just as Vidal walks into the office like itâs her own.Â
You donât look up, Agathaâs in a meeting with the task force and trying to get Chief to approve of a warrant to search Tonyâs place of residence. Or something to be able to talk to Bruce. So really, sheâs just yelling at the Chief.Â
âYou gonna be mad at me all day?â Vidal asks, plopping down into the spot next to you.Â
âYou know what you did.â You say, and fast forward another food delivery driver.Â
âIâm sorry, I know it was like a stupid frat boy thing to doâŠI just - You want to talk about what we areâŠWith Harkness being so possessive, I just - I wantedâŠIâm sorry.â Rio isnât used to apologizzing and it shows. Though you arenât as mad anymore as you should be.Â
âI could forgive you for that coffee and some usable evidence about the money laundering.â
âMost girlfriends ask for jewelry.â Vidal responds, but sheâs already grabbing your computer to sign in and show you.Â
âGood thing Iâm not girlfriend material.â You laugh self-deprecatingly, Vidal shakes her head.Â
âYou baby, youâre wife material. Here - itâs started with an ex vet Rodgers. Heâs got this mob mentality going on - part of the family type of thing. Heâs got another guy - but we only know heâs into Russian liquor and leather.â
âWow, thatâs not a lot to go off of, you donât even know his favorite candy or record?â You joke, but your eyebrows furrow, âWhat did you mean Harkness is possessive? I thought you guys were done?â You say just as Rio takes the computer back.Â
Harkness hits the glass, scaring the shit out of you both.Â
âProbie, say bye-bye to Vidal, we got a real lead. And no, you canât chaperone loca.â Agatha says as she grabs her gun from her drawer.Â
âWhere are you going?â Vidal tries, but Harkness just weighs her options.Â
âYou keep a secret?â She pretends whisper - leaning closer to you both.
âDetective, really?â The FBI agent says, annoyed.Â
âSo can I.â She says, just as you strap your sidearm in and walk out of the office.Â
You go uptown to visit some of Bruce and Stark's old business buddies. No one talks, you wait too long at their reception desks. Everyone lawyers up as soon as Harkness gets a little too gruff.Â
Youâre on your third forty-year-old frat guy with a Wolf of Wall Street attitude when you get angry.Â
âThis isnât working.â You whisper to Harkness who yawns, shifting her weight from one foot to another. âThis is called being a detective, sometimes you donât get to play water guns on rooftops.â
You turn to see a woman looking at you, then back at her cellphone, with another cell phone in her hand? Her shoes are too nice for a receptionist.Â
âWeâre asking the wrong people.â
âDidnât know you had a list of the right people Probie, tell me do you think we should be talking to a Yatch club instead?â She contiuies to make fun of you. Harkness arches an eyebrow not sure where this is going. Â
âWhen I did your grunt work, I thought you were despicable, but I kept my mouth shut.â You say, stepping away from the waiting area and closer to the woman.Â
âWould you like a purple heart for getting my coffee and not talking shit?â Agatha is just plain flirting now. But you are too focused on the idea of the secretive woman.Â
âEveryone talked shit about you to me, though,â you finish, and Harkness follows your eyeline.Â
âWe talked to all the receptionists. They all have iron-clad NDAâs, what are you looking at the pencil skirt for?â But sheâs walking with you, which proves she agrees.Â
âSheâs not a receptionist. Sheâs sitting out here for a different reason.âÂ
The blonde good good-looking woman is pretending to be on her iPhone typing, but sheâs not looking at the front desk, sheâs away from all of the others.Â
The bottle blonde eyes you again, and you slowly make your way over to her. She stands and goes towards the elevator.Â
âProbie, the fuck you think youâre going?â Harkness says but follows you, not about to let you walk off the deep end alone.Â
You both get onto the elevator with the blonde, but you hit the panic button, stopping the elevator.Â
Harkness doesnât ask questions anymore as the blonde turns to you.Â
âYou canât get Bruceâs money. Heâll lawyer up too fast, but thatâs also because he doesnât have any money. It was all Tonyâs - or his Dad, Howard's more like. They have this stupid group - all of them in this underground bullshit-â
Agatha holds her hand up to stop the woman and points to the camera.Â
âThat little red light is on, you sure you donât wanna wait till we get outside?â
âItâs just for show, itâs not connected - too many of them fuck in this elevator.â She brushes the idea off - too smart for such an easy way to get caught. Sheâs really thought this out.Â
âProbie, donât touch the walls - you got proof for us or just more hearsay? Cuz I donât love elevators. Or the run around, what's with the BlackBerry? Sorta old tech for someone in your field, no?â Agatha doesnât need the answer; sheâs asking for the item.Â
The woman swallowed and looked at you and then your partner. Seeming more uncomfortable with you than the detective, not the way interviews have gone before.
âIt is older; they kept putting tracking in the iPhones, so this is how I can keep evidence. If I give this to you-â The intensity sheâs trying to give in a small elevator with the emergency lights on is unneeded. There were bodies in the morgue, and your shoulder still fucking hurt. No one was thinking the witch had a small reach.Â
âYour ass is in the line of fire,â Agatha answers with a little more empathy than youâd give her credit for.Â
âYouâre Detective Harkness, the witch killer, right?â The blonde woman says, and Agatha doesnât react to the nickname as angrily as usual.Â
âYouâre Pepper,â your partner is helping you more than questioning the blonde, and the woman looks surprised.Â
âYou know me?âÂ
âI donât forget a 10-80. You gave a killer right hook, they paid you off. You were my source for the-â
âI didnât have a choice, I- I need you to catch them, all of them.â
The elevator shifts - coming back to life. You go to stop it again, but the older detective stops you. Pepperâs panic tells you both that you canât get away with this a second time.Â
The brave woman thrusts the phone into Harkness's hand.
âFix this, get them.âÂ
The weight of passing the torch makes the oxygen seem thin in the tight space.Â
The doors open, and Pepperâs fake smile turns back on, and sheâs out of there.Â
Harkness palms the phone and starts to head out of the elevator; youâre hot on her trail.Â
Two security guards stalk towards you - one radioing to someone else. Eyes locked - the two seem like theyâd just stepped out of a Mortal Kombat video game. They could just be coming to see why the elevators are down, but Thing Two sets his tatted hand on his gun.
The room is full of business types; thereâs no way theyâd draw a gun. But the guy with the hand tat was Black Ops. These guys werenât simply security - but guns for hire.Â
Harkness grabs your elbow, and you swing around as she stops.Â
âDonât hit me Probie. Be gentle with me,â She says, and then cups the back of your head to bring you into her. Leaning in and kissing you hard, her tongue in your mouth makes you moan. Eyes shutting as you feel like youâve been electrocuted - your every fiber coming to life.Â
Then she stops, her hand holding your cheek.Â
Both of you flushed, but she turned to the crowd and yells.Â
âSHE SAID YES, EVERYBODY! SHE SAID YES!â
New York business types break out into applause, fuck, even the doorman is clapping. Your shocked face plays into the part beautifully.Â
You twist to look around the room, and Pepper is gone, to the wind.Â
The witch killer is a smart Detective, youâve got to admit it.Â
The two security guys look a little taken aback, maybe it was your age gap - you're in civilian clothes. But maybe it was seeing too queer women kiss in real life and not on PornHub.
Either way Harkness throws an arm around you and thanks the crowd until youâre outside.Â
âDrive, drive now. Go to Rio.â Her smile falls as she gives you the keys. But she doesnât get in the car.Â
âHarkness?â
âGo, now, Probie, go back!â She shouts, and you get into the car and get the fuck outta there.Â
You park and get into the precinct and into the office. Vidal is going over more video when you bust in.Â
âHey, easy you okay?â Sheâs concerned, but youâre freaking out and youâre not sure how to answer that.Â
âHarkness is out there- we were. Pepper and-â You start to babble and Vidal stands and grabs your face.Â
âHey, breathe.â When you sharply inhale, she wraps her arms around you and hugs you tight. Her hands fall to your hips, then as she pulls back, she feels something in your pocket. Fishing it out, itâs the blackberry.Â
âWhatâs this?â She ponders flipping the old cellphone over.Â
You take it from her and then start riffling through your drawers.Â
Agatha must have placed the phone in your pocket during the kiss, you didnât feel a thingâŠ.well maybe not feeling a thing wasnât exactly the right turn of phrase. Your lips were still tingling from that kiss. Fuck, not the time to think about it.Â
âHey, baby, what are we doing?â Rioâs never seen you like this - and she just canât figure out how to fix it.Â
âWe need a cord that will go into the BlackBerry!â You say and then go to the precinct. âANYBODY GOT A BLACKBERRY CORD?â You yell, and someone in the back raises their hand.Â
You run over and thank them, taking it from his hand.Â
âYou okay, Harkness Kid?â He asks but you ignore him and run back to the room.
âWhereâs Ags? What did she say?â Vidal asked you, not understanding what the fuck is happening.Â
âSheâs out there and I gotta- I canât I need.â You swallow, and the phone has a password lock. âFUCK!â you shout.Â
Rio looks over your shoulder.Â
âIâm sure I.T. can crack a phone from 2010. I need you to breathe for me.â She says, her voice now that of a dominant who fucks you. It works too well at stopping you in your tracks.Â
You close your eyes and stand up the room, feeling like itâs spinning.Â
The blinds are drawn, thank god, as Vidal moves your hands off your face.Â
âBreathe, baby, hey cariño.â She says, and you throw your arms around the strong FBI agent. She holds you tight, as your breathing evens out.Â
âWe can figure it out, I got you.â Rioâs words worked, and you were calming down.Â
You both sit down, you explain what happened - all of it. While Vidal listens, you tell her how you canât just give the phone over to evidence. How this goes too deep - you were scared this wasnât simply one person. But a group thatâs underground with connections - possibly connections even to the badge.Â
âAlright, so no IT. We figure out the password.â She says evenly as you scratch at your scalp anxiously.Â
âWhat about Agatha?â You say in a small voice, a scared voice.Â
âSheâs trying to protect Pepper - but if sheâs not back in the hour, I know where she might be - but letâs just go back to the first part. Pepper said âthem,â it could just be Tony and Bruce, and the Witch, right? Plural, could be three - why do you think it goes to dirty cops?â Itâs a valid question from the FBI agent.Â
âBecause of the way she looked at me, Rio, itâs like she and Agatha had talked before. But she didnât go to the cops - sheâs scared.â Itâs a thin lead, but you canât shake the idea. Once the older woman released you, she rubbed at the back of her neck while deep in thought.Â
Rio paced the small office, only content on a plan enough to take out her phone.Â
âIâll be right back, just hold on. Let me make a call, stay here.â She tells you waling out, but as you plopped in the chair with the locked phone, you were sure you had to move. Move fast, because if Agatha was right, she was out there alone.Â
âThatâs MY PARTNER YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!â The memory of Agatha yelling it rings in your ears, and you stand up.Â
Not sure where youâre going, but sure you canât stay inside and wait.Â
At first, youâre going to drive back to where youâd been, right where Pepper had disappeared. But something in your gut tells you to head where youâd found the last victim, Darcy Lewis. The last place the witch had struck was in Brooklyn at a warehouse.Â
It took you too long to get there in traffic, but by the time you were out of the car, you felt the need to grab your sidearm.Â
Your phone is blowing up with messages from Rio; you left it in the car as you head inside.Â
You walk under the police tape, then open one of the back doors, making it two feet before a hand reaches out to grab your collar.Â
You donât fire, thank god, as Agathaâs hold has got you inches from her face. Her finger goes up to her lips in a shushing motion. Sheâs got you in the shadows with her.Â
You mouth out âwhat the fuck?â
She points behind you to see someone, it could be a woman, in a black hoodie.Â
âPeppers already gone to the wind, so who the fuck is that?â She mouths and points to the woman whoâs standing over a houtline with a blood splatter.Â
You both raise your guns and walk further into the warehouse.Â
The woman isnât wearing shoes, just sweats, and you hold your breath.Â
âNYPD, LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS!â Agatha shouts, and the figure runs fast away - not turning to look at either of you.Â
Then someone from behind hits you on the back - you twist with your gun up. Just as Agatha spins to get the guy, he kicks her in the groin. She yells in pain, and you tackle him to the ground.Â
He drops as you two move on top of one another, scrambling to get a good grip. You canât pin him and grab your gun, you get hit in the jaw with an elbow.Â
You end up flipping, getting his neck in a lock with your legs you choke him.Â
Holding on tight until heâs unable to breathe - choking but going to grab the sidearm on your ankle.Â
Agatha sees it, even through her pain she raises her weapon in the air and fires it and then aims it at the guy, the man releases his grip on you.Â
You let him go, and he keeps his hands where you can see him.Â
âYouâre under arrest dipshit!â Harkness snarls, still holding herself.Â
Then to your surprise, you hear sirens. Backup had arrived, cops quickly entering the building and you identify yourself and Detective Harkness.
The FBI vests tell you that Rio sent the cavalry. Â
Few S.W.A.T. guys with semiautomatics flood into the barren warehouse. The area and Agatha point in the direction of the hooded figure. An FBI agent has the guy in cuffs as he glares at you. You shout as Agathaâs trying not to throw up from the pain.Â
âPerp fled the seen! Five foot five on foot - no shoes, black hoodie, and sweats!â They scatter, and Hill comes around to you.
âDamn, you fight pretty good, kid. Harknessâll be proud when sheâs done holding her dick.â She says and puts a hand out for you, pulling you up off the floor.Â
âWho called?â You asked, knowing already.Â
âAgent Vidal, she figured it out pretty quickly. Guess you got FBI in your pocket, but you saved your partner's ass twice this week.â Hill tells you with enough edge that you donât take the compliment.Â
âThe phone?â You're not sure how theÂ
âWhat phone?â The cop questioned, and you shook your head. âEMT will want to check you out.â Her partner Danvers, points behind her to where you can see from the warehouse windows an ambulance pull up. You were wondering when Rio was going to pop up from the crowd.Â
But you really didnât want to get checked out, so you walked over to your⊠partner.Â
Agatha was still really going through it now. That asshole really hit her square in the groin. She was doubled over, still looking green.Â
âYou need a medic? Or ice?â You question through clenched teeth - empathetic that she must be in so much pain.Â
âDonât speak.â Detective Harkness wheezes out, holding herself. Somewhere between the most painful moment and her Probie watching - it was all too much.Â
You watch her still doubled over, and you start to speak without thinking.Â
âSo that whole joke about you and Vidal having a whose dick is bigger contestâŠI didnât realize. I mean I thought maybe it was - but I didnât realize you had.â You were rambling and feeling bad for rambling. Stupid for talking about any of it now.Â
âStop, god, please stop.â Agathaâs dark hair feel into her face as she just kept cupping her dick like it was on fire.
âLet me get you some ice.â You say weakly, going over to an EMT. Who gladly gave one and eyed the bunched-over detective.Â
You came back and hesitated, holding it.
âDo you want me to-â you said and then stopped yourself because oh my god did you just offer to ice her cock?
Agatha smiles now, and her strained beet beet-red face looks a little happy.
âProbie, you're so sweet. Youâd ice my balls?â You smirk, you throw the pack at her face.
âForget it.â You start to walk towards the FBI truck. But Agatha tries to walk after you, screaming for the whole place to hear.Â
âNo! Come on, thatâs so kind. Can I make Vidal watch? Where are you going!? No, come look, itâs swollen! Can I get a second kiss, too? Probie you sure can kiss - Itâll heal me!âÂ

Chapter 1: The Midnight Hour is now up on AO3: READ HERE
This will be the last chapter I post for this story till I have more of it written. Enjoy!
Summary:
At 25, crime beat reporter Violet Sorrengail is already one of the most accomplished journalists in California, with an investigation into bribery at the LAPD gaining her national attention and fancy job offers in New York. But a panicked phone call from a source leaves her rattled â and seeking answers she canât hope to get with a press badge hanging around her neck.
LAPD Detective Xaden Riorson is fighting a losing battle. The Aretia Hills Station he practically grew up in is crumbling under the weight of understaffing caused by the scandal, gangs that seem to become more emboldened by the day, and distrust from the people heâs sworn to protect. Worse, he's being saddled with training a reporter who thinks she's a cop, even as the gang that bribed the station's officers continues running rampant.
Xaden and Violet couldn't be more diametrically opposed, and their partnership couldnât get off to a worse start. Xaden was disappointed to find Sorrengail actually waiting by his truck as heâd ordered.
âSo you are capable of following orders,â he said as he emerged from the shadows of the encampment. âI was beginning to wonder.â
Sorrengail was leaning against the passengerâs side door of his truck, arms crossed over a black leather jacket and white t-shirt as she stared at the scuffed dirt at her feet, but she glanced up at the sound of his voice. Xaden had hoped she wouldnât be here, so that he could use it as an excuse to boot her from the department since she would have disobeyed two direct orders in one day, but it looked as though that would have to come another day.
âDid you get what you needed?â she questioned. She scrutinized him carefully, those hazel eyes of hers every bit as observant as heâd initially feared.
Xaden didnât answer, instead digging his key from his pocket and unlocking his truck. âGet in. Iâll drive you home,â he said, circling around to the driverâs side. By the time he settled himself behind the wheel, however, she hadnât yet moved. âI donât have all night, Sorrengail.â
She pursed her lips. âMy parents taught me not to get into cars with strange men,â she said sweetly, taking a step back. âI can get home just fine on my own, thanks.â
