Bunnelby, the Shivering Pokemon!
Bunnelby here is based on the snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus), and is from the freezing cold Kisukis Region, which is based on Nunavut, Canada. It's also found in another region, Nuvupi, which is based on Alaska and the Aleutian Islands! More on both of these regions to come!
... *much hemming and hawing* It's a process... but this feels closer than what I had before for the evolved form of Gnux's Winter variant (under the cut).
I started this line in my Fakemon redo project back in April. One of the changes I decided to go with was adding an intermediate "pupa" stage, as these aren't just fairy-like mons mimicking birds, they're fairy-like bug-mons mimicking birds as a defense mechanism.
The theme I'm aiming for with this series is "It's not what it seems", so I'm taking any chance I get to make things convoluted or misleading. That said, I apologize for the manifestation of what looks like a Mawile rip-off, I tried to compensate for it with the different design elements and anatomy, but hmmm, if the giant head behind another doesn't remind me of ... >:T I promise though, I stuck to this for a reason, it's going somewhere in the next stage. ;w;
The fire-flavored one is next in line, but I'm struggling even more with that one to reach a design I'm satisfied with, so it could be a bit. (Update: For better or for worse, it's here! C'X)
snom?????????????
Snom???
Snom!!!!!!
Snom.
An adorable little moth caterpillar, Snom is one of those pokemon who develop a massive following on a combination of cuteness and memes. It’s not hard to see why – the pudgy cylindrical body concluded with a simple dotted-eye face makes for something incredibly wholesome. It’s also one of a handful of pokemon whose popularity far exceeds that of its fully-evolved form, having a design with much more universal appeal than Frosmoth (though my opinions on that will wait until Frosmoth’s own review).
Snom notably represents our very first Bug/Ice-type, and like many caterpillar pokemon, has a horribly barren movepool until it evolves. Which can take awhile, since it evolves through friendship and doesn’t appear until pretty late in SwSh’s campaign – and you’re stuck with some atrocious stats until then. I don’t particularly care about the mechanical difficulties in using a pokemon, but they’re severe enough in this case to be worth mentioning. Makes for some good flavour, though! Like, thematically. Nobody eat Snom pls.
It’s also one of a select few pokemon with transparent elements to their design, with some sort of icy jelly casing surrounding its body, the spikes of which apparently grow larger as it eats more. Reminds me of a case-bearing clothing moth infestation I’ve been contending with for awhile, they eat fabric and form increasingly large cases of fibers as they do so x(
All that said, my opinions on Snom are much the same as everyone else’s. It’s SUPER cute!!!!!! Maybe even the cutest pokemon ever!!!!!!!! And I love it. But there’s not actually a whole lot else to say about it?
Also not a big fan of the greenish shiny, but green shinies be like that.
The phrase “the floor is larva” also just spontaneously came into my mind, which is kinda relevant.
fuit gummy/10.

Here’s another PMD OC sprite edit! Albert Brightmann, another former human in the same guild as Bentley, and one of two such former human kids who’s actually been adopted by the guildmaster - a wise old Dragonair with Wholesome Grandma Energy™️ named Henrietta Brightmann, hence Al here’s surname. His colouration’s slightly different to the norm, not shiny but not the normal colours either. A deeper blue, richer cream, and a more bluish shell as well. Another defining feature’s his much longer and much sharper horn, and his goggles make him stand out as well, but the main thing that makes him stand out (which I couldn’t represent in the sprite edit) is his size. He’s much, MUCH larger than normal, standing at 4.2 metres in height whereas the quoted height is “only” 2.5. A behemoth of a Pokemon, sure, but he’s actually a gentle giant at heart. Cheerful and often eager to help however he can, he’s got a big heart to match his big stature - despite his young age of 15, he does a lot for the guild. After all, he’s uniquely qualified to - his sheer physical strength lets him carry darn near anything on his back, and makes him a good teammate to have around. He helps out a lot with transporting other explorers’ teams, as well. Picture how the Lapras in PMD4 does it, pretty much.
