Thinking about wasian Vincent Whittman again, largely because I was watching Be Kind Rewind's video on Merle Oberon, and they'd mentioned how much she had to actively police her appearance, making sure she didn't tan too much, etc, in order to hide her south Asian heritage to pass as white. I think Vox having to monitor his own appearance similarly, even more so than most people in the image-focused TV industry during his era would have had to, might contribute to how (1/2)
Oh my god, yeah. I can see that happening, especially him trying to hide his more Asian features. Actually, I imagine when Vincent was younger he would have looked Asian, but the older he got he started to look whiter. But he would def try to erase anything that implies his Asian heritage due to his internalized shame and racism.
I can picture a time when he was younger, his mom would warn him about staying under the sun too long because it would ruin his fair skin. I can also picture his mom pinching the bridge of his nose every day to make it look "longer".
As an adult, he would obsess over his appearance in the mirror every morning, trying to manufacture the perfect "image". TV is visual after all! He needs to absolutely look the part. Even during breaks he would constantly drop by the bathroom to check himself, because to him he can't afford looking incapable.
