hello! i just returned from a trip to scotland (loved it so much!) and i wanted to plan a trip to the highlands next. i was wondering if you have any hiking trails you love or would recommend? :) i’m looking for a more easy-to-medium difficulty (as i have slight mobility issues) and sometimes it’s hard to tell which ones would be best just from googling 😅 hope you’re keeping well :)) xoxo
aw nice you had a good time :- ] i havent traveled very far recently because been so busy but i will point you to walkhighlands.co.uk its the best walk website for here, you can search by area /map and theres a difficulty and bog rating lol . im not sure what to recommend because i dont know how my easy-medium walk compares to yours like i was going to recommend ben venue bc its not vry difficult but that has scrambling so hm. dont know if thatd work for you. walkhighlands definitely is best internet resource for walking in scotland . also usual warning that what usa/canada calls hikes are all called walks in scotland and what other people would call mountains are called hills here so dont get caught out and check if theres scrambling or bogs that would make mobility difficult. maybe look at walks around lochs and rspb reserves since those are mostly(!) more flat or gravel tracks

i'm studying (or , i guess just finished aside from degree show) illustration (bachelors in design). i chose it i guess becaues its what i enjoyed doing already though i didnt quite understand at first how it functions bc i can also lean into fine art, but i'd rather not rly study fine art and just make stuff as a hobby thing. for illustration/communication design definitely thigns that are important is enjoying working to prompts and problem solving. outside of art degrees im not sure how to choose things except rly genuine interest and drive. though i think you cant always know until you start? theres a few people in my class who seem to like drawing but not rly illustration if that makes sense.
im not sure what i'd like to know, to be honest. did a lot of learning as part of it and became so much more confident and found new interests and ways of making. i also chose my specific course at the specific art college bc of student reviews for illustration and the tutors being rly fantastic and they are, so thats a big part of courses too, engaging and kind and personable tutors is so peak like i love having a wee chat and when they recommend books and send you things just because they thought you might like it . awesome : ]
outside of art if i wanted to study just anything further i think i would go towards something to do with ecology or archeology (vry broad but u get the idea) because those things interest me
final assessment portfolio is submitted (as of like 1am) !!! woohoo! so much hard work and still more work to do for degree show but im rly pleased with a lot of what i made + proud of myself
its assessment time so im prepping my portfolio and all that kind of thing for degree show etc, and its making me need to touch mountain touch tree touch moss so bad bro im staring wistfully at like the cape wrath trail and mountains and bealachs and watching pct vlogs from a youtube video maker i like lmao

have you ever tried making sun prints or cyanotypes? they’re very fun to me :-]
i have not but the art shop in the college i go to sells things for it so im planning to buy some before i leave :- ] plus it only started being sunny again recently so i was thinking about it but not able to (yet)! i would rly like to , i love how they look

realised i didnt post walk photos from the last walk 𓇬𓇬𓇬 binoc photos of beinn a' ghlò and other hills. middle photo is more cairngorms direction but im not sure which ones those hills are despite looking at labelled panoramas and things

quick thoughts while looking at jon klassen's work and while working on my project i need to finish but wow i would love to make weird little board books. i need to also explore the world of them more because i only own one rn (a bubble by geneviève castrée) but i was looking at jon klassens (your forest, this is not my hat) and its just such a rich vehicle for really creative textured illustration . so many childrens books are just fantastic for illustration in general.. things to look into
