I like one âď¸ post about something that's popular at the moment and suddenly my whole fyp is filled with stuff about that. One post that mentioned it. Fucking hell man
I watched another fantastic video on YouTube tonight while I was cooking dinner. It was a video essay (I will link it here) about algorithmic social feeds on the internet- the dangers of them, and how to overcome algorithms through identifying what we genuinely like within the platforms we use. The creator of this video emphasises the importance of dismissing fears of cringe in this process, to fully commit to creating your own algorithm.
Essentially curating and creating your own personal space within a platform is at the centre of this idea. This relates to the video I watched the other day about the indieweb and was discussed in Pagemeltâs video. Creating something you love on the internet unashamedly is the only way to get away from the grasps of big tech. I like to think that this is what led me to coming back to Tumblr. The fact that I, years ago thought to turn off âtop postsâ in Tumblr shows that I already knew this all in some way. Coming here and looking at and reading things that I have curated by following blogs and people I like feels so peaceful in comparison to being on Instagram and Facebook right now. Here, I constantly decide what I want to see and what I donât want to see and out of it (by reblogging) I create something bigger and beautiful (my own curation). While I follow a lotttt of creators on Instagram who create videos and photo montages and art regarding things I love (gardening, birdwatching, ecology, composting, music, movies, books etc), there is still a lot of garbage thrown into the mix by the algorithm. I agree with Pagemelt in the fact that I hate knowing that the things I am seeing almost all of the time on these platforms were formulated to get a reaction out of me, whether positive or negative just to keep me around. It feels invasive and in a way very ridiculing. Very much âdance monkey >:) !!!â. I want to give love and attention to the creators I do admire though and donât feel like I can abandon these platforms completely. Itâs so weird and hard. I wish there was a way I could only see them and not all the other bullshit in between. The most bizarre part of this all is that I would never have seen this YouTube video without algorithms and that really is just infuriating but also hilarious.

What happened to good old-fashioned formulae. Used to be just plug in numbers and get an answer. Everything's about iterations and algorithms these days smh. Bring back straightforward formulae.

Idk I used to have a pretty fun ÂŤÂ recommended> page that was about 90% stuff I was actually interested in and upon a google search were like a verified historian or physicist or whatever.
But I watched a few too many of Dustinâs ÂŤam I the red flag  videos in a row that the algorithm got totally garbled and all Iâm getting is low effort tiktok reaction videos and clickbait on my whole page.
Bro, I liked so many touken ranbu art and posts and stuff here on Tumblr, and it's been a month of 0 suggestions. The typical 'because you liked this' stuff? Yeah, NOTHING.
Ah, but I liked 1 single Digimon post and it showed me all kinds of stuff related to it for a week.
