I love being a woman
I love being Spanish
I love being catholic
I love being hyperfeminine
I love being traditional
I love being myself
Hate how the girlies are talking about how hyperfeminity is demonized in media when in ny experience, hyperfeminity is weaponized to alienate and ostracise women of colour, neurodivergent women, trans women, disabled women, queer women, working class women etc... 🙄🙄
Venus from Cirque des Planetes 🩰
Something that always has bothered me in fanfics (or just any work of fiction period) is when the female main character is so insistent on trying to be anti-feminine. And I’m not saying if you’re a masculine woman or a gender non-conforming woman you should feel ashamed about not expressing femininity, you do what makes you feel comfortable and happy, but what I am saying is it always fucks with me how alienated it is in media.
comments like “(x) tried to get me to wear a dress, like that would ever happen” or “I don’t understand how they (another woman) can wear so much makeup” and other comments similar have never sat right with me because of the implications they have. The implication being because they (the character) doesn’t participate in feminine things such as wearing makeup or dresses is in some way better or more desirable than the women who do. But at the same time this also alienates women who participate in masculinity.
Typically these characters are just feminine enough to remind the audience they’re women and make them desirable, but just masculine enough to be different and worthy of being idolized. Because masculine women don’t retain the femininity these women in media display (not saying they can’t be feminine just saying their femininity isn’t represented in the media we consume) we often make fun of them for being hyper masculine.
But this also affects gender non conforming women, as they have been so romanticized and idealized when they aren’t able to meet the expectations our media has set up for them they’re scrutinized and attacked. Creating an endless cycle nobody can truly win.
TLDR; media romanticizes and depicts the wrong parts of women the wrong way and screw everyone over and it’s very disappointing.

Cirque des Planetes : Venus, the Tightrope Walker
The family’s golden child. Using telekinesis to maintain balance on the tightrope, her soft, graceful dance puts all those who gaze upon her into a loving transe. She dreams of marrying rich and leaving the circus one day, but that would mean losing the attention that she gets as a performer.
I really hope people understand that I can spend 30 minutes doing my makeup while readjusting my frilly pink mini skirt every other dab of my blush pad and still be feminist as fuck
