My i wojna (Us and the war) by Edward Okuń
Pogrzeb huculski (A hutsul funeral) by Teodor Axentowicz
My i wojna:
painted during and after ww1 (1917-1923)
art nouveau aesthetics, baby!
the young couple is the artist and his wife
the old woman is meant to be the personification of death, most probably
"ohh a nice geometric backgorund" look closer! SNAKES
snakes with moth wings, can there be anything cooler than that. i mean they are there to represent the war so on that level they suck. but visually they are SO cool
Pogrzeb huculski:
painted in 1882
it's one of Axentowicz's many paintings depicting Hutsul culture
the landscape! the beautiful greek catholic church!
i do love funeral scenes and i do love snowy landscapes
the little kid on the right is probably my favourite detail here tho. if you zoom in she's looking right at you. creepy baby
there is something really precious to me about a funeral being such a colourful scene against the empty winter landscape
check out more of their works! Okuń, Axentowicz

Hutsuls interesting ukrainians who live on the West of Ukraine. The image of Hutsul symbolizes freedom just like Cosacks (Kozacks),who lived On the East of Ukraine. There is only one difference between Hutsuls and Cossacks, that Cossacks remained only in the legends, but Hutsuls lives to our days, and now they fighting for us for our freedom.Everyone understand now that freedom in Ukraine for Ukrainians like air.And for Hutsuls freedom in their blood.
1750 y
For the first time the word "Hutsul" was an insult and meant bandit. The gang of Hutsuls behaved like Robin Hood gang.Till nowadays our people in Ukraine does not like someone who put themselves above others.Even if you're making more money, even if you superstar you have to respect all the people.
Mentions about first Hutsuls was at 1754.Hutsul Woman burned the manor of one gentleman because he disrespect her,she was his maid. She paid for this by her life. But proves to all that we have to respect each other
