Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined To Meet I am not a big fan of short story collections. The irony of this is I enjoy writing short stories. That said, I don’t enjoy short stories because I always feel like I have a taste of a character but I never really get to meet them or see how they evolve, but a well executed short story leaves me satisfied; the story is woven in a manner that I know the character and have fallen in love by the end. Okay, I will stop writing about my love-hate relationship with short stories and talk about ‘Meet Cute.’ ‘Meet Cute’ is written by a number of my favourite young-adult fiction writers and I went into it expectant. A good number of the stories left me feeling the magic of first meetings and the beauty that comes with the beginning of a new relationship. My favourite story is in this collection is the very last story in the book, by Nicola Yoon, titled ‘The Department of Dead Love.’ It is set in an alternate universe and provides a window for new opportunities once we are ready to let go of our old ideas. My life next door by Huntley Fitzpatrick This book kept making think it was gonna zig and kept zagging. Which was fine but I felt a bit off about all the choices the book kept making. I mean was good and the story was interesting enough it just felt so off putting for me. I think reader will definitely like the book the characters are very solid and the story had a lot of good elements. I just thought the story was a little too unrealistic for my taste.
