I live in the Netherlands, the ADA does not apply to us.
Tuesday at 10 am, I had supermarket training with my SD trainer. We were discussing our plan of approach when a neighbor approached with her dog to let her dog sniff my dog. The problem? He's vested and working. (And IMO you shouldn't just approach random dogs even if you know them. tbh)
So I asked; Hi, sorry, can you keep your dog away from mine, please? We're training right now.
To which she responded; but you know us, we've seen each other before.
Yes, but we're training, he's working. So not right now, please.
The fact that he couldn't sniff another dog did not sit well with that neighbor's dog, and he started barking loudly. So loud that a person from a nearby building started yelling for the damn dog to shut up. My SDIT started barking in response to the other dog. I kept him short and under control. And eventually asked the neighbor to; "Can you please move on and walk away?"
She did not like that and glared at me. Now I'm wondering; was I rude? Did I do something wrong? How could I have handled this better? I am working with my social worker to reframe my thoughts. But I thought maybe people in the SD community have some tips/thoughts on this as well.
On a positive note, my SDiT still rocked his supermarket training despite this. He was attentive, focused, and didn't touch anything on the shelves. My trainer and I are very proud of him and myself for coming this far.

Bultersmekke op de boerderij - 2019
Assistance dogs gathering today at a farm, whoever thing assistancedogs are not allowed to have fun never looked into them properly! Today we had a lovely lunch together and a walk in the park where the water was VERY muddy, so a lot of my light colored long-haired colleagues got a nice tan! Made a LOT of new friends today and now it is time for a nice long sleep!
