Day 30 is the collection of hues between Violet and Rose, AKA THE MAGENTAS. This is the final entry everyone. All 30 are now complete. Whoo! Swipe for colour info and progress shots. According to the Purple Earth Hypothesis, before Chlorophyll became the way plants harnessed sunlight, the less complex Retinol would have been the primary pigment for photosynthesis, and the world would have been Purple rather than Green. Between Blue and Red on the colour wheel, the Magentas fill a role opposite that of the Greens, combining the qualities of Red and Blue into something else completely. All colours are non-existent in a sense, being created by our brains, but nothing is actually any of the colours on the Line of Purples - they're always combinations of two or more colours being perceived at once. If Red is Warm, Cyan is Cool, and Green is Fresh, I would describe Magenta as Rich or Energetic. Colours in this range are rare in nature (outside of flowers), and have been historically difficult to gather as pigments, making them associated with the wealthy and people of status. There is a supernatural quality to these colours, particularly Purple, and being extra-spectral, they have some interesting qualities. For the 6 multihued pieces, I chose not to represent colours, but a selection of mythological creatures I plan to add to my personal projects. Day 25 is the collection of hues between Azure and Violet, AKA THE BLUES. Swipe for colour info and progress shots. This range of hues contains the darkest colours, making them great for use as shadows. Blues are perceived as being further backward in space than the other colours, and are the colours the eye is least sensitive to, making them stand out less, and appear passive or subdued. They appear cooler at the Azure end, and warmer at the Violet end. Due to the eye's reduced sensitivity to these wavelengths, they appear darker, and create a strong contrast with the Yellow wavelengths. Blues in this range have stronger associations with the night and deep water, in contrast to the brighter Cyan hues. Day 28 is the collection of hues between Spring Green and Azure, AKA THE CYANS. Had I done this back in November, it would be going out on my birthday. Swipe for colour info and progress shots. This range of hues is probably the most culturally divisive group in the spectrum. Are they Green, are they Blue? No. They're a separate colour in between. But in various parts of the world, green is a type of blue, or blue is a type of green; some kinds of blue and green are one thing, and some are another. Language is weird like that. In the country I'm from, Cyan is probably indistinguishable from Blue to most people - they don't look the same, but they're varieties of the same colour. Being the unholy fusion of blue and green, they represent horrifying qualities like calmness and relaxation. They are generally perceived as cool colours, and have a cultural association with water and air. The colour that we associate the sea and the sky with is the result of something called Rayleigh scattering - water and air molecules aren't pigmented, but they filter out various wavelengths, causing only the blue-green wavelengths to remain visible.
