Awareness/representation flag for hallucinogen persisting perception disorder. HPPD is a non-psychotic disorder where a person experiences persistent or lasting hallucinations or perceptual distortions after drug usage (typically psychedelics, but it can also be from other drugs including dissociatives, THC, SSRIs, and entactogens).

Versions with the static overlay (left) and without (right) are present— we chose to put it there to represent the visual snow that’s common with the disorder.

Can also be referred to as the comet HPPD flag.

Visual Snow Syndrome or VSS is characterized by perception of small dots or distortions in vision that are similar to TV static. It is caused by neurological factors rather than the eyes themselves.

I've had visual snow as long as I can remember, and because of this it took me until adulthood to realize not everyone sees this way! It may be more or less apparent depending on light levels. It can vary in severity from person to person and from day to day.

It's also possible to start seeing visual snow later in life. Anything that can impact your neurology, like neurological events or head injuries, can cause visual snow.

HPPD is Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder. HPPD describes when someone continues to have Visual distortions after exposure to a Hallucinogen and can last for only a few months or even years (some reporting it never truly went away). This isn't limited to visual snow and can result in different types of distortion, but visual snow is a common one!
