How I’d introduce a Deaf tech character in an action/sci-fi film.
Our heroes stop outside the big swoosh workshop door.
The introductory hero hands our pov protagonist a pair of earplugs.
“Why would I need those?”
“Trust me.”
Door opens, light and an INCREDIBLY LOUD recording of Beethoven’s Grosse Fuge Overture sweeps over our heroes. (Open to suggestions)
They step inside, the pov newbie clutching their ears.
Panning shot of workshop and inventions.
Our first intro to our Deaf techie is their sock-clad feet tapping in time.
Medium shot from the back of our Deafie dancing wildly.
Intro hero walks over and pulls the plug.
Silence.
Deaf techie turns around and sees visitors.
POV hero: “you know, you’ll go deaf if you’re not careful.”
Deaf techie [in sign]: too late. What you want?”
I ain't a wimp when I get writers block I STRESS ABOUT IT FOR A WEEK STRAIGHT, and not to ChatGPT like a coward. I face writers block like a man, laying in bed hours crying.
My rewrite of the horrid tower scene except the painting is actually addressed, byler is the canon route, and mike is tolerable and communicative :)
i love how this screenwriter explains how to fix those bad, superfluously written scripts haunting media these days using “pirates of the caribbean” and its timelessness. key takeaways:
no moment should be wasted! (”script economy”)
trust the audience, they can piece it together
suspense is fine! waiting is important! let hints marinate, and don’t give it all away with exposition.

The Life Of A Writer, a play in two acts.
Will's coming out is his happy ending? Well, in a multi-plotline show like this, all plotlines need to be at the same point in their story at the same time. Like how at the midpoint Will discovered his powers, the kids were taken, Hopper tried to sacrifice himself, and El found Kali.
So what else is happening at this time?
Well, I have two favorite examples for this. For what Will's beliefs that concern you are being compared to.
El believes she has to die to win. That is structurally equated with Will believing Mike is straight. El believing she has to die and Will believing he won't have romance. Are categorized the same.
Holly IS BEAT TF UP, STRANGLED, and THROWN DOWN THE STAIRS.
BEAT UP, STRANGLED, AND THROWN DOWN THE STAIRS, she loses Holly the Heroic. This is the most literal, most direct one, to use as an example. She is literally physically attacked and loses the fight, and her physical symbol of believing in herself breaks.
And that is put in the same category. As Will saying "I never had a chance at romance and that's okay". Beaten, strangled, thrown down the stairs, belief in himself lost. An alternate name for this beat is literally called "all hope is lost".
These are the scenes in that section of the episode in order:
-Holly is beaten, strangled, thrown down the stairs, and loses Holly the Heroic
-Hopper says he's worried something will happen to El and he'll kill Kali if it does
-Steve and Dustin agree to die together
-El and Kali agree to die together
-Will comes out
-The children start the ritual.
One of these things is not like the other.....or is it. The topic seems positive. And the content mostly is. But there is, demonstrates a recovery/overcoming from these fears. But there is one line that does not. One line that still demonstrates a negative belief.
"Anything happens to El, I'll kill [Kali]. I won't hesitate." "You die, I die/You die, I die" "When the bridge collapses, so will we" "I knew he wasn't like me" "It's time."
Now they don't look so different, do they.
