Importance of Audio-Visual and Written Literature for the Teacher
While studying to become a teacher, I did a reading project. I recorded my roommate John, a DJ for the campus radio station with an incredible voice, reading the book âThe Hungry Caterpillarâ by Eric Carle. I improvised on my guitar behind him. My girlfriend and future wife, cut out felt material shapes to illustrate the story. We used the story in different ways having kids reading, reinforcing words and sequence with tactile (touch) activities, etc. Children loved it and I learned teaching reading could come alive off the page. It all started with that great book. In the story, a caterpillar eats too much junk food, has a tummy ache, but eats a nice fresh green leaf, and finally feels better. The beautiful âleafâ in my picture is an iceberg lettuce in my wifeâs garden. Can you find the little snail đ? Like the caterpillar, this little gastropod would gladly chomp through these green leaves. Mr. Carle died this week. His book helped start my career. He will always be remembered. #hungrycaterpillar #ericcarle #taughtme #howtoteach #reading #greenleaf #lettuce #iceberglettuce #organicgardening #changeandgrow https://www.instagram.com/p/CPYJxBWhYA_/?utm_medium=tumblr
3b Stimulate Recall (where ya gonna put it?) Okay, I actually demonstrated this idea of stimulating recall in the previous post. I asked about your experience and understanding.. it turns out itâs good to link what youâre teaching to something someone already knows. Itâs like finding the file folder where the new info is going to go...in the brain! Great teachers find something already in the kidsâ âbrain filesâ that relates to the new stuff. When a learner says, âOh yeah, thatâs just like x, y, z that I already know,â the learning is halfway there! The point is we want kids to remember things, so help them set up a place where new info is stored and retrieved. Easiest way to do this? Ask them about their previous experience with the content. BTW, this is really effective when using distance or digital learning! Teaching Tricks during COVID19 3 Stimulate Recall So youâre staring at your group of kids (1, 4, 200...). You did an amazing dance and posed a question that really has them wanting to hear more. Then you told them the cool, interesting, useful, need-to-know things they will be able to do, and just how well theyâll be able to do them, when theyâre finished (learning objectives). Before I add the rest of the tricks, err, teaching techniques, can any of you, anyone, please, briefly reply to my video questions? It will help in the next thing I post đ please? #teaching #teachingtricks #greatteachers #techniques #howtoteach #gettingattention #learningobjectives #gagne #covid19 #education #keepemhome #recall #changeandgrow https://www.instagram.com/p/CDfUxN0p6aE/?igshid=1sifzyxufa38x

Exploring the world teaches you something you donât quite expect. . Throughout the years, I always knew nutrition and exercise would have a burning passion within me. . But something that a masters in nutrition or bachelors in exercise science will never teach you... . No level of knowledge will empower the person across from you in a nutrition appointment. But thatâs still not what traveling taught me. . On a deeper level, we all want to be understood. Understanding first, allows for change. Which leads me to what Iâve learned... . The one thing that traveling the world has taught me is weâre not all that different after all. . In fact, itâs led to better understanding of the person who sits across from me - it allows me to help them change for the better. . Lecturing and motivating are two entirely separate things. . Coaching requires leading, not steering, and understanding the person across from you allows you to know the right path to lead someone down. . . . . . #bealeader #howtoteach #howtolearn #motivationalinterviewing #nutritioncounseling #nutritioncoaching #nutritionphilosophy #travel #changetheworld #behaviorchange #growth #dietitian #nutritionist #worldviews #bayarea #jnewtrition #nutritionmotivation #fitnessmotivation #nutripreneur #worldtravel #southafrica #capetown #tablemountain #tablemountainview (at Table Mountain National Park)
