3b Stimulate Recall (where ya gonna put it?) Okay, I actually demonstrated this idea of stimulating recall in the previous post. I asked about your experience and understanding.. it turns out it’s good to link what you’re teaching to something someone already knows. It’s like finding the file folder where the new info is going to go...in the brain! Great teachers find something already in the kids’ “brain files” that relates to the new stuff. When a learner says, “Oh yeah, that’s just like x, y, z that I already know,” the learning is halfway there! The point is we want kids to remember things, so help them set up a place where new info is stored and retrieved. Easiest way to do this? Ask them about their previous experience with the content. BTW, this is really effective when using distance or digital learning!
