HOT DOCS Craziness!
Earlier this year I found out I got accepted to the Hot Docs 2014 Doc Accelerator program, an initiative dedicated to emerging documentary filmmakers, providing them with access to film screenings, conference sessions, workshops and networking events!
Well... Hot Docs came and went, and man was it an experience. So many films, friends and education!! It was truly amazing.
Here are my top picks from #HotDocs14:
The Starfish Throwers (dir. Jesse Roesler)
Explores how three of the world’s most fiercely compassionate individuals fight hunger and struggle to restore hope to the hopeless in unexpected and sometimes dangerous ways. Half a world apart, a five-star chef, a retired school teacher and a sixth-grade master gardener fight for a seemingly lost cause—until they discover their impact may reach further than their actions.
Tomorrow We Disappear (dirs. Jimmy Goldblum, Adam Weber)
Described as India’s “tinsel slum,” the Kathputli artist colony in New Delhi is home to over 1,500 families of puppeteers, acrobats, painters and magicians. That’s all about to change. When the government sells the land to private developers, traditional life is set to be razed for the city’s first skyscraper.
The Overnighters (dir. Jesse Moss)
Desperate, broken men chase their dreams and run from their demons in the North Dakota oil fields. A local Pastor risks everything to help them.
The Great Invisible (dir. Margaret Brown)
Documentarian Margaret Brown's new film depicts the response to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and resultant oil spill from multiple viewpoints.
Virunga (dir. Orlando Von Einsiedel)
The incredible true story of a group of brave people risking their lives to build a better future in a part of Africa the world's forgotten and a gripping expose of the realities of life in the Congo.
I highly recommend you watch these ones!! More to follow
