#horror trigger warning

Jenny and her parents had moved across the country to an old farm in Minnesota. Her mom had always wanted to live on a farm. Jenny missed the lights and noise of the suburbs outside of NYC. Her dad was indifferent, spending long hours in the barn, just like he had in their old garage.

Jenny was currently in her bedroom, with the blankets pulled over her head. Suddenly she heard the door creak open. Her parents must be home! She raced down the stairs. Her sock covered feet moved almost noiselessly. Suddenly she heard a low moan. She stopped running and cautiously peaked around the corner. Her father was drenched in blood, her mother nowhere to be seen.

“Dad!?” said Jenny, “Are you ok?”

Her dad’s head swiveled toward the sound of her voice. He smiled.

“Jenny, honey, why don’t you come help me with the groceries?”

“But dad, you-, you’re covered in blood!” Jenny exclaimed.

“It’s fine,” he said. “It’s all fine,”

Jenny remembered the last time this had happened. Last time it had been her brother that had not returned from the grocery store.
