If you’re planning to go or live in Korea, one of the must-try-foods is Samgyeopsal, which is essentially pork belly that is grilled and eaten wrapped in a huge lettuce leaf. Jeju is actually famous for black pork, which has a strange story surrounding it’s name.

A long time ago, pigs in Jeju were fed with the family’s poop (yes, you read that right, poop) which resulted in a unique taste and hence, “black pork.” Nowadays obviously, this is no longer the case but the locals have cultivated their pork to taste very different from pink pork. I have yet to try it, but for now I will stick with pink pork.

Korean cuisine is well known for it’s extravagant, and sometimes simple side dishes. The picture above is more than one would usually get in a restaurant. They had seasoned mini crabs and even injeolmi (the brown powder beside the red sauce.” I wasn’t sure why there was injeolmi powder but I tried it anyway.
