1: on campus interview

The first interview I did, I called the admissions office, and told them the day i was going to be on campus to schedule the interview. They have a number to call on the admissions page somewhere, usually under “contact us.” Usually they’ll tell you the next available slot they have for an interview on a given date. Your interviewer will generally be an current student working as an intern or an admissions counselor, and you generally don’t know who it will be in advance.

2:  Alumni interview! 

Alumni interviews are your typical college interview experience. You might have to fill out a form on the college website (usually somewhere under “prospective students” on the admissions page) or they might just email you. i know that one of my interviewers emailed me out of the blue telling me that they were who was assigned to me, but more often the admissions office will email you the contact information of your interviewer and you have to get into contact with them.

3: Skype interview!

I didn’t actually do one of these, but it’s basically an alum interview except on Skype. The below information is still applicable!

Scheduling: 

So, basically, you get in touch with the admissions office or your interviewer, and exchange schedules. I did all of my interviews on the weekend no earlier than 11am, but I’d honestly recommend early afternoon (unless you’re a morning person). I would just email or call them, introduce yourself, and offer a few times and places that work for you.  Generally, your interviewer will be local (although I did have an interviewer who lived about an hour away from me), so you can pick a local cafe or someplace quiet that’s easy for both of you to reach. I would be careful about how busy the place you choose gets, just because you don’t want to be yelling over the table because you can’t hear each other! I would also make sure that you choose someplace that you’re comfortable with, if you can (the Starbucks that you’ve been going to all your life vs that weird Starbucks at the corner of the mall that never seems to have people). I found that my interviewers tended to be pretty flexible with their schedules and were fine with the small cafe that I chose. Also, please don’t do standardized testing or something very stressful/exhausting, and then an interview (read: don’t be like me). While your interviewer is equal parts appalled and amazed when you frantically explain that you’re only this out of it because you came straight from a four hour exam from hell, it is not worth it. Don't do it. Love yourself. 

Dear person I hate; 

The thing is that I wouldn’t hate you now if I felt like you cared about me. I put myself out there because I cared about you and I loved hanging out and I felt so special because you wanted to be my friend. and then you stopped talking to me and it was so sudden and it hurt so much. i saw you still talking to your other friends, friends that are prettier and more popular than me and i know it was kind of what i expected all along because of course, why would you ever want to hang out with someone like me? 

and then that hurt turned to anger because everyone says how nice you are, how cool and how sweet and how fun and I know you are none of those things. you are a stone cold bitch who moves on when you don’t like people enough anymore. 

I hate you so much… but only because one day you seemed to have decided to hate me. (and that the truth is that makes me hate myself too)

Aphrodite:  People who go out of their way to be nice to others really get my attention.  Also I’m usually attracted to people with similar interests to me.  (Being cute doesn’t hurt)

Ares:  I think war is really shitty for everyone involved (except for the industrialists who get rich off of it, but that’s another story), and should be avoided whenever possible.  But unfortunately in some cases it’s the best option, and in those cases should be done with self-control because it can get out of hand quickly.

Athena:  This nugget of wisdom goes out to all my friends who are heading off to college soon.  Leave your dorm door open for the first several days, odds are someone will walk into your room, strike up a conversation, and soon enough you’ll find yourself with a year-long friend.  Don’t be afraid to walk into other people’s rooms if the doors are open too, it’s a totally acceptable thing to do in the first week.  That’s how I made a lot of my freshman friends.

Demeter:  I think my favorite season is spring, cause you get nice weather but ideally it’s not too hot.  Plus it’s such a relief after a long winter!

Hades:  Do I believe in an afterlife? I think there’s something at least; if not life, at least some form of residual consciousness.  For example, I think my dad can still see and hear me somewhere.  Maybe I’m just trying to comfort myself, but there it is.

Hephaestus:  I haven’t really had experience with this, but I imagine that certain disabilities could be really taxing on a relationship.  I think some very strong and admirable people could absolutely make that relationship full, healthy and happy regardless of it, and I’m sure some people can’t get past it.  Not sure if that’s really their fault or not.  I suppose it depends.

Hermes:  “I probably just never bothered to figure it out hahahaha”  Context: I was talking to a HUGE NERD friend about the Sentinel class in Mass Effect, and how bad I am at playing it.

Pan:  What’s there to say?  Other than that if you don’t support it (LGBTQ* rights that is) you shouldn’t be following me.
