"not all chronically ill people are disabled"
people are NOT gonna like this take but it needs to be said
the take that "not all chronically ill people are disabled" is ableist bullshit and a total lie.
while yes, technically there are chronic conditions that aren't 100% disabling and you can still pass as ablebodied, it is also a matter of lifestyle that makes all the difference in the world (e.g. the distinction between a person with asthma being in a polluted vs non polluted area).
people with adhd deserve accommodations.
people with autism deserve accommodations.
folks with mental illness deserve accommodations.
people with chronic conditions and invisible illnesses deserve accommodations as well.
i understand that certain online spaces are sanctuaries and vent spaces for specific groups (e.g. cpunks/ physically disabled who have no other safe space), and that randos w/ "vaguely similar" symptoms SHOULD NOT be centering their struggles in a space that is clearly not for them. yes, absolutely.
YOU GUYS DESERVE YOUR OWN SPACES W/O RANDOM INTRUDERS-- FULL STOP.
but that also does not mean that it is okay to gatekeep the definition of disability and who gets access to what based on a hierarchal idea of suffering.
individuals who are high functioning in a world that doesn't acknowledge invisible labor are disabled too and deserve accommodations.
don't get the definition twisted.
