Honestly I don't get why people like the Otherworld side-story in GGZ. I read the light novel and it read like the author was being held at gunpoint to write Heterosexual Mei and they did everything they could to twist the story into still being about KiaMei. Because Kevin doesn't even seem to like Mei that much and only gets close to her bcuz it was his mission to watch her for signs she was gonna become a Herrscher and then he tries to kill her the SECOND she starts turning with 0 hesitation. And I know at the end they also throw in the "I've been doing this in a bunch of worlds and can never save her" shit at the end but even the flashbacks where he's supposedly in love with her it's so bland and barebones it's almost funny.
and they try to parallel Mei falling for Kiana after she saves her from killing herself with Kevin except this Mei was gonna slit her wrists in her apartment and Kevin only knew something was up because He Had Spy Cameras Installed In Her Apartment And Was Watching Her All Day and then broke into her apartment to stop her and instead of questioning how he knew she was gonna do something she starts giving him eyes instead in the classic terrible het writing move. Like this is NOT the same as Kiana fighting Herrscher Mei and trying to appeal to her humanity so she can wrest back control of her mind and then saving her when she tries to jump off the roof to end the threat she poses, what they did with Kevin was much worse and so stupid.
And then Kiana shows up and she's immediately having a better time with Kiana than any interaction she has with Kevin so lmao
tbh it could 100% be read as comphet with how Mei in GGZ AND HI3 seems to immediately get unhealthily emotionally attached to whoever saves her from her lowest point but it's with KIANA that it evolves into a healthier relationship.
I'm so glad this is almost certainly a dream Kiana had and everyone that's been in the GGZ fandom longer has told me it's considered non-canon anyways because this shit sucked and I feel bad for the person that wrote it cuz it feels like they were forced to write shitty het lmao
