Modern AU Hexworld: Mal/Owen edition

I love the idea of like

Owen being this Ivy League trust fund baby that everyone in the office just thinks is super classy and he has a reputation for being serious and all about his work, he’s kind of a loner and only has one friend

Then one day he comes back from a long weekend and a random redheaded dude starts coming around asking for him

One of their coworkers goes to get him and is like, “There’s this weird sketchy guy looking for you?” and Owen immediately responds, “Oh, that’s my husband.”

Most of his coworkers didn’t even know he liked dudes, but that is the least of their questions

They were pretty sure he was single?? Wtf??? He’s never mentioned this guy before even as a friend, Dominic you said he never dated you said he was married to his job HELLO-

Dominic eventually gets it out of him that his husband’s name is Malachi and they met THAT WEEKEND when Owen was on vacation in Las Vegas for his brother’s 21st birthday

They got drunk and got married at one of the chapels there and Owen payed for Mal to fly back to New York with him

(”You flew a guy you just met back to live with you?!” “I want to do right by him, the least I could do is introduce him to my parents.”)

(”Why didn’t you just get a divorce?” “Mal’s Catholic. I don’t want to disrespect my husband’s religion.”)

(”Do you even know his last name?” “Yes, it’s Yates.”)

#8: Hexmaker, by Jordan L Hawk

My review: I thought I would never love another familiar more than I loved Cicero. I was wrong. Mal is one of the best characters I’ve ever read, hands down. His path is not an easy one but that clever fox is almost always one step ahead. I love him.
