I started drawing Cicero and Mal about a year ago and I wanted to draw Nick and Isaac, but I got stuck (i haven't drawn a horse since middle school).

Owen being this Ivy League trust fund baby that everyone in the office just thinks is super classy and he has a reputation for being serious and all about his work, heās kind of a loner and only has one friend
Then one day he comes back from a long weekend and a random redheaded dude starts coming around asking for him
One of their coworkers goes to get him and is like,Ā āThereās this weird sketchy guy looking for you?ā and Owen immediately responds,Ā āOh, thatās my husband.āĀ
Most of his coworkers didnāt even know he liked dudes, but that is the least of their questions
They were pretty sure he was single?? Wtf??? Heās never mentioned this guy before even as a friend, Dominic you said he never dated you said he was married to his job HELLO-
Dominic eventually gets it out of him that his husbandās name is Malachi and they met THAT WEEKEND when Owen was on vacation in Las Vegas for his brotherās 21st birthday
They got drunk and got married at one of the chapels there and Owen payed for Mal to fly back to New York with him
(āYou flew a guy you just met back to live with you?!āĀ āI want to do right by him, the least I could do is introduce him to my parents.ā)
(āWhy didnāt you just get a divorce?ā āMalās Catholic.ā)
(āDo you even know his last name?āĀ āYes, itās Yates.ā)
āHey Owen, Iām sorry for that wholeĀ āsketchy weird guyā comment.ā āNo, no, thatās completely accurate.ā
Every time they talk to Owen about it he is completely calm about the whole thing and seemingly acting like itās no big deal.Ā
Thatās 50% because he genuinely likes Mal and is lowkey hoping it works out, 50% because the entire situation and explaining it to his family has been so stressful that being at work is downright soothing

Look that last one is downright simple by sci-fi standards.
I think that this once again is just a question of personal preferences, tbh.
I love books with a lots of characters, especially if some characters get their own books, or little spin offs, or an arc for themselves.
Iāve hadĀ āDeosilā lying around since last year but only now had the time to read it (which I did in one sitting) and even though this is a Hexworld blog, I have to say that the Whyborne & Griffin Series is still my favorite series, simply because it feels so much like home.Ā
The characters always feel like actual (non-)human beings rather than just people who aid the plot and I feel as if Iād know every single one of them like a friend. The story isnāt anything groundbreaking new, but itās so nicely executed and entertaining, heartbreaking, that Iād gladly read ten more books - maybe even about different characters in the same universe/murder town.Ā
I love how it breaks withĀ ātraditionalā story devices in such lovely ways - no deaths just for the drama, or because someone has to die to signal the seriousness of the situation; Griffin and Ival being an actual pair after the first book, instead of pining for each other for 11 books before admitting that theyāre in love.Ā
I still love the concept of a town like Widdershins with itāsĀ ābeing nice to a neighbor is weirder than running around the streets in a cloak at 2amā aesthetic. And I really love the end - it had a satisfying closure and just the right amount ofĀ āunfinishedā storylines (Griffin and Jacks last brother, the story behind the Masters, the City of the Masters in Australia, ect.) for people to write their own headcanons, fanfictions and theories about it.Ā
Read it, if you havenāt yet.Ā
Iām rereading Hexbreaker again and internally crying over Tom being alone and touch starved for years and then falling for the most physically affectionate character in the seriesĀ

Hereās my boy Whyborne with his small ginger son, inspired by that one scene in Deosil. I still canāt believe that series is finished now! And what a beautiful ending. Months later and Iām still reeling.
Happy new year! My resolution is to be kinder to myself and draw more cats :D
