If I am honest with people i am more MALCOM ✊🏾than I am MARTIN✌🏾! I love me some MLK Jr. but reading the Autobiography of Malcolm X 📖changed my life as a young black boy. What most people don't realize is that there are two very different versions of Malcolm X, PRE- Pilgrimage to Mecca and POST. After a personal and physical journey to the religious destination of Mecca Malcolm changed his demeanor, his views, his approach. Through prayer and meditation he was able to be open to a new path and embrace a different way. I love this picture of him at temple 🕌sitting in #virasana aka #herospose. He was truly a hero to me as a young black boy trying to find his way and again later as a grown black man. A year ago I started my own personal and physical religious journey. The destination wasn't a place, but a direction....INWARD. It was an opportunity to leave what I knew was comfortable, to try a new approach and as a result of my effort and studentship I have been forever changed. PRE- pilgrimage Richard and now POST. That pilgrimage, that journey started on my #yoga mat with physical practice, self study, #prayer🙏🏾, #pranayama and #meditation. The destination is more like a direction...and the journey continues, and I have accepted that it will never end. There is always a deeper expansion, a deeper understanding to embrace. Shout out to Gina Minyard, @atlyogacollective and the Body of Light Immersion and Teacher Training for being such a huge part of this pilgrimage. #bowflex #blackhistorymonth #blackboysread #blackboysdoyoga #yoga #yogaformen #yogaeverydamnday #MalcolmX #elmalikalshabazz #bodyoflight💡
