The idea of hereditary legislators is as inconsistent as that of hereditary judges, or hereditary juries; and as absurd as an hereditary mathematician, or an hereditary wise man; and as ridiculous as an hereditary poet-laureate.
Thomas Paine, Rights of Man
can you tell us about the Gregor Mendella effect?
A lot of people think he invented doms, but really he just liked peas. Some joke this means this distorted memory means that the universe has split in two.

RE: Heredity being controversial. People who believe that heredity isn't real and express it. (and I only counted one crazy in the replies doing this) do not represent a significant portion of the population. They're on Tumblr. Tumblr has a larger concentration of insane, socially maladjusted people than normal. Outside of this website(and similarly bonkers places), I don't believe you're going find a signifcant amount of people like that in the public sphere. It's not a good source of information to use to try and make determinations about what the culture in the real world is actually like.
I count 3 people who identified the discussion about if heredity was controversial as racist or a racist dog whistle itself. The question was if heredity was controversial. Three people, at least two of whom I have known for years as apparently fairly sane, saying the question itself is racist does seem to confirm that “heredity” is controversial.
I have encountered some extremely bonkers positions as obligate party or smile and nod at lines at colleges and employers so I don’t assume that being obviously insane means that a position is not obligatory in certain circumstances that have severe economic consequences for the people within them. Tumblr has been an engine of ideological development historically, and we are about a decade out from still being able to pretend that Twitter isn’t real life too. “Significant numbers” aren’t the question, the question is if there’s enough that feel strongly enough to qualify for “controversial”?
And, this is what it picked for me, I must question the wisdom of that stupid egg.
