I like to sew talismans into the pockets if my clothing. I make homemade herb packets using coffee filters/fabric scraps or use tea bags depending on the mix. These also work brewed as a tea.

Good for 1 medium cup of tea. (For reference, when making this recipe, I used a keurig and the medium setting for water) I HAVE tried this myself as well as my mother, who isn’t feeling well- it seems to have helped her at least a little right now.
a pinch of Black Pepper (just a small small amount)- relieves congestion, boosts immune system
1/8 tsp Basil- source of calcium, magnesium & iron, helps sinuses, aids digestion
Add the listed ingredients in a small bowl (or mortar if you have one) and ground each up until it is to how you desire. After adding the Vanilla Extract (or beans) stir the herbs together. Add the small amount of Black Pepper, unless you want more spice/heat. Lastly add the basil and again mix the herbs together.
Put the mix in a tea bag. If you dont have any, take a bag of store bought tea, open the tea bag (carefully!!!) and empty the herbs in a container with a lid. Then use the now empty tea bag and fill it with your mix of herbs. (I’ll leave a list below of things you can do with the tea in the container).
Now, without the string attached to the tea bag, you can brew your water and add it. What I do for this part is, ensuring that the tea bag is folded for a decreased chance of herbs falling out, I stick the bag (wet) to the inside of my mug. It may seem weird, but it works for me. Let this tea mix diffuse for 5 minutes (or longer if you want it to be a little stronger). Sorry for not being able to give an exact temperature of water. If anyone knows the average temp for water for a keurig, please leave a note!!
Things To Do With The Loose Tea Herbs In A Container
Use the herbs in a ritual. Already dried and mixed. Keep the ‘wrapping’ it came in to keep track of which herbs are in it!
Make incense. You can find some recipes for incense online.
Use it for tea. And it will work for any of you who wish to practice reading tea leaves!
Place the herbs in a sachet and put in a drawer for scenting clothing
Make a salve! Or add the herbs to soap.
Cleanse with the herbs, or banish
Keep the herbs in an open container to lightly scent a space
Keep to add to food (if it would work for your tastes)
Spread outside as an offering to the Earth. Or a deity.
I started on my first herb grimoire! Trying to do it in alphabetical order but I’m going to need more of these notebooks. I’m super proud of this so far.
So… it definitely works to force dreams and visions now I’m going to just put this here…
WARNING! BAY LAUREL SMOKE CAN BE VERY HARMFUL TO YOU IN HUGH DOSES!! IF USING AS AN INCENSE PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS AS IT IS A POISON THAT CAN HARM YOUR CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM, YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM AND YOUR REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM! BE CAREFUL
Alright disclaimer aside, as I was passing the laurel through my candle one of the dried leaves caught on fire producing a smoke that smells like burning tabaco and sweetgrass it’s very pleasant but this lead to a surprising discovery… a nice little head buzz (totally unintentional) and a sedative high similar to that of an indica strain pot plant. It made me tired and lulled me to sleep, producing vivid dreams and pleasant situations (not sure if that’s a standard or what more research has to be done) it also eased all of the pain in my body leading to a more solid and rescue sleep. I don’t recommend using bay for this purpose as the medicinal uses and side effects still aren’t totally understood but I did sleep solidly from 2:30am to 12pm the night before the solstice. Now next test I do I will be using a dream diary since I only remember bits and pieces of my dreams so it’s very hard for me to interpret what they mean but I do remember seeing a former classmate of mine from high school as well as triplet kings from three different countries I believe Italy Spain and Portugal which is interesting considering my friend is leaving for Portugal today to meet with someone from the United Nations. The rest is too fuzzy for me to bring back. I will continue to document my testing and my research here if anyone is interested (I have all of two followers right now I don’t even know who would see it!) anyways that’s all for now. -kitchen witch of the frozen north

I’ve recently added 4 new books to my herbal library. These books will help me learn their uses and how to care for them.
Herb-A-Day by James A Duke. A bit too advanced for me. It was not what I was expecting. It talks more about the clinical/pharmaceutical side of herbs in medicine, not the herbalists usage.
Growing & Using Herbs Successfully. Very useful book. Good information in a concise manner and good drawings of the plants.
The World of Herbs & Flowers-A Guide to Growing, Preserving, Cooking, Potpourri, Sachets & Wreaths by Adelma Gernier Simmons. This small book is short and to the point. It has sharp photographs and easy to follow recipes.
The Herbal Tea Garden-Planning, Planting, Harvesting & Brewing. I love this book, until I read this, I didn’t know some of the various plants that can be used to make tea (truly a tisane: an infusion of herbs in boiling water). It offers herbal tea lovers a complete handbook for selecting, growing and brewing herbs, and details their reported medicinal and other salubrious qualities. There are 70 herbal tea plants discussed in this book.
I’m always on the lookout for good books to add to my library. The more useful the better. I am interested in herbs and camping currently.
