Iām excited this to introduce you to Randolph Carter, one of my absolute favourite members of the Hellcraft cast. This character is meant to be a surrogate for HP Lovecraft, as the character named Randolph Carter often was in Lovecraftās own fiction. This makes him a joy to write. I havenāt gotten into it just yet, but writing Lovecraftās purple prose style into a characterās dialogue is a lot of fun. There may not be too much of that style in the next few pages, but further down the line Iāll lean into that much more heavily.
Lovecraft Easter Egg: 454 Angell Street is the house he was born in.Ā
This page was a huge pain in the ass to letter. I went through countless rewrites and script changes to get it just right, and Iām still not 100% happy with the way it turned out. I still think the dialogue between Hank & Betty feels clunky & unnatural, while the dialogue between Hank & Randolph feels compressed. But I did the best I could, and I can live with that.
I am happy with the balloons and tails on this page. It seems that I am still improving my lettering skills, which is a very good thing. Iām okay with not being a good letterer so long as I am consistently a better letterer than I have been.
Gregās art definitely stands out on this page. He knocks it out of the park with the establishing shot of the house. I guess thatās why heās consistently meeting his Kickstarter goals. Thatās right, folks! Gregās latest Kickstarter project, Bree Bubbles, has exceeded itās $500 goal, with still 9 days left at the time of writing this. Next up in Hellcraft, a sequence of very exciting pages. I canāt wait to share them with you, theyāre the highlight of our first story arc. You can go ahead and set your expectations high for the next 5 weeks as our story reaches its climax.
