âWe werenât given proper instruction to actually pay the claim, and there wasnât enough monies in certain files in certain companies to pay medical claims,â Collins said. âWe would have to just get the client off the phone as fast as we could.â
Health insurance âdelay tacticâ is too common: Former Cigna executive
Collins described crying at her desk while handling calls from desperate patients, as supervisors laughed.
Collins, now the owner of âMotherâs Keeper Doula,â quit her position after attempting to approve payment for a widowed mother of five whose husband died of pancreatic cancer, saying supervisors had instructed her to deny the hospice claim and get the caller âoff our phone line.â
Me: paying $50 a month consistently on a medical bill
Hospital: hey this is going to collections bc you owe us money
Me: Iâve been paying it off
Hospital: it has to be through a payment plan itâll still go to collections
Me: ok can I set up a payment plan for $50/month
Hospital: mmmm no least we can do is $70
Me: I canât afford that
Debt collector: Iâm a debt collector here to collect your debt would you like to set up a monthly payment plan of $50?
Itâs been almost a year since my moms aide dropped her and broke her leg
And for some reason everyone around has just given up with her treatment.
âIt was an accidentâ, âelderly people are more sensitive to painâ, listening to my mom scream in agony - as if sheâs just a statistic now.
Itâs too much to ask to have someone feed her nutritious foods that wonât worsen her diabetes. I offered to help, and my brother took it as a personal attack against his cooking, and instead of accepting my help , he threatened me instead.
Too much to ask to do the minimal amount of physical therapy to get her more mobile.
Too much to ask for someone to take care of her who WONT hurt her.
Too much to ask for someone to turn the stove off and lock the door when they leave.
My brother who has this illusionary thing called power of attorney, who wanted to throw my mom in a nursing home, is doing all that he can to do nothing for her so that he can sell the house and go on about his life.
Sheâs getting sicker, injured and is surrounded by threats that he wonât address, because he wants the easy way out.
Heâd rather get mad at me for trying to improve the situation than he did at the idiot who actually broke his moms leg!
Another cog in the for profit hellcare machine, I gave up on him and his malignant ways, after seeing what heâs capable of Iâm better off without him.
I tried to stick it out for my mom but It became too disturbing to watch and witness and I had to get away from him and his tyranny.
But Iâll fight for my mom til the day I die.
Alliance @ 105 court st in Brooklyn shouldnât be able to operate the way they do. Iâm surprised theyâre not shut down already. The place only has 1.5 stars and thereâs a reason.
The aide does less then the bare minimum, barely cooks or cleans and spends 90% of her time putting a dent in the couch watching tv. As if she gets paid to hurt people and barely do anything else. She leaves the front door unlocked and is completely useless but the agency couldnât care any less.
They come here for work that requires no skill or standards , and the ones we care about the most end up suffering the most.
Iâll do everything in my power to make sure my mom gets decent treatment and her untrained imbecile of an aide, ROSE gets what she deserves because I know damn well my mom deserves a Billion times better.

Expensive premiums affect more than a person's ability to get care when theyâre sick.
"The U.S. spends about 18%â19% of its gross domestic product on health care, much more than other industrialized nations spend, Anderson says. âThey spend closer to 9%â10%, which means that they can spend money on other thingsâeducation, housing, national defense, whatever their priorities are,â he explains."
