Hefner in Missouri
LESSER KNOWN BAND YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO #1: Hefner
These guys were kicked out by THE FUCKING POINTY BIRDS and I will never forgive any of you for that.
anyway, Hefner were a (somewhat) britpop band that released their first album ‘Breaking Gods Heart’ in 1998 under Too Pure, an indie label, they were very late to the scene (it was literally dead) although given their sound I would still class them as Britpop. The band consisted of Darren Hayman, Antony Harding, John Morrison and Jack Hayter. Darren and Anthony had met at art school a few years prior, and while the members I listed before were the main members, to my understanding the line up changed around a lot, and it was essentially a solo project for Darren.
The band broke up in 2001, only reforming once in 2005 to pay tribute to John Peel. They had a cult following and were dubbed ‘Britains largest small band’ (which they printed on a t shirt)

Holly Madison Recalls How Hugh Hefner Tricked Her Into Using Baby Oil As Lube | HuffPost Entertainment
“It’s an infection waiting to happen. It’s disgusting,” the former girlfriend of the late Playboy founder said of the “nonconsensual” act.
Despite medical advice — and Madison telling Hefner she did not want to use oil as lubricant — the “Down the Rabbit Hole” author alleged that Hefner would secretly use it anyway.
“It got to the point where I refused to use it, but then other people would tell me that he would — in the bedroom — put it on his hand and then put it on me when my back was turned and I didn’t know he was doing it,” Madison said.
“Which is so foul and so nonconsensual and so gross,” she continued

Precious Recordings (London, UK) is bringing us yet another (35th to be exact) BBC session. This one was recorded by Huw Stephens, thus the new purple border (John Peel is red, and Janice Long is yellow).
Standard Fare (Sheffield, UK) were a 3-piece indie rock band fronted by Emma Kupa. They clearly were inspired by the C86 sound as well as Orange Juice, Hefner and The Wedding Present. Listen to that guitar!
Kupa went on to record solo and with Mammoth Penguins.
Renowned illustrator Hal Hefner writes about his own very real nightmare on Elm Street and how Wes Craven’s work taught him to survive it.
