Grinning, Robby laughed with her. βYouβre not in your twenties?!β He teased, tone incredulous and loving how her laughter crinkled the corners of her eyes.
A halfhearted swat at him was her reply. βOh, if I was in my twenties again,β Dana mused, βI mightβve taken Julieβs offer when she tried to set us up.β
Stunned, Robby blinked at her stupidly. βWhat?β
Brow lifting in surprise, Dana cocked her head. βHuh, thought she proposed the idea to both of us. What a girlβs girl letting me decide without the pressure. Iβll have to reach out, havenβt talked to her in ages.β
Setting his drink down, Robby shook his head. βRoll that back,β he mimicked the statement with his hands. βJulie, the other new nurse from when we first started, tried to set you up with me?β His hand found her knee again, god he couldnβt help himself especially given the topic of conversation.
βYeah, I,β she looked at him closely, βyou truly didnβt know?β He shook his head, mind racing at the missed opportunity. βJulie said βhe has all that ER moneyβ.β Voice dropping an octave and taking on a rasp to imitate Julie. βHow do you say yes to that setup? It was so odd!β She laughed, swiping some loose hair off her face. βAnd I couldnβt help but think, well, whatβs wrong with him? If sheβs leading with that!β** Her eyes found his again, mirth dancing in them. βTurns out, nothin. Nothing was wrong with ya, Julie was just a shitty matchmaker.β
Still trying to catch up, Robby wet his lips. βJulie, she wanted us to date.β He repeated, wanting to make sure he understood that vital piece, so he could fully process Danaβs comment on allowing the set up if she ever got a do over.
Dana gave him an amused look. βThat would be the definition of settin people up.β She quipped, βbut Julie eventually went into peds, and, as I like to say, anyone who chooses that is coo coo for Cocoa Puffs.β She tapped her head and chuckled.
βAnd, and youβd, if given the redo, wouldβve taken her up on it?β He couldnβt let this drop, not when his skin had been buzzing ever since sheβd told him of the divorce. Not when for the first time, single might also mean available. And not just available, but interested?
Shrugging a shoulder and giving him one of her crooked smiles, Dana took another drink. βHindsightβs 20/20, or so they say.β
