Oh, how nice it would have been to have breakfast here. But I was eight years too late. The Blue Comet Diner in Hazleton, Pennsylvania has been closed since 2011. It’s come back from the dead before, after briefly closing in 2007, but eight years is a long time — neglect can be a building’s worst enemy. In its day, this was a glorious Mountain View diner, built in 1957, now lost under structural modifications. Yet that beautiful neon sign survives — the vandals have left it alone, for now.
